US Muslim leaders who supported Republican Donald Trump to protest against the Biden administration’s support for Israel’s war on Gaza and attacks on Lebanon have been deeply disappointed by his cabinet picks, they tell Reuters.

“Trump won because of us and we’re not happy with his Secretary of State pick and others,” says Rabiul Chowdhury, a Philadelphia investor who chaired the Abandon Harris campaign in Pennsylvania and co-founded Muslims for Trump. Muslim support for Trump helped him win Michigan and may have factored into other swing state wins, strategists believe.

I refuse to believe that people would be stupid enough to expect somebody who banned people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from even entering the USA in his first term to be pro-Gaza…

Nah, I actually think minorities voted more for Trump because the right have more socially conservative policies.

All this reporting reminds me of the “But actually this Man on The Street Hated Brexit even though he voted for it” slew of stories.

It’s all just nutpicking. You’ll find far more Muslim Trump voters who don’t know who any of these people are. And you’ll find plenty who are clapping like seals, because they’re just as Murdoch Pilled and MAGA headed as their white peers.

“If you don’t vote my way then you must be an idiot” is the endless refrain of the losing party. I hear it every election cycle

Had Harris been the one edging out Trump on a razor thin margin, it would be conservatives whining about American voter stupidity.

But if all these people are so thick headed, why do politicians find it so hard to get them to vote their way?

Behind door #1: Isn’t as one-sided as you regarding a war in another country that involves your religion.
Behind door #2: Tried to enact laws that openly discriminate against your religion just a few years ago. And is also totally one-sided against you regarding that same war.

    It’s a tough choice.

Isn’t as one-sided as you regarding a war in another country

Dems pandered to an Israeli government that was actively campaigning for their opposition. This wasn’t just “your anti-genocide views are simply too extreme for the average American voter”. It was “Netanyahu is funneling Russian money and propaganda into the Republican campaign apparatus while you keep telling him he’s a good boy on national TV.”

Talk about leopards eating your face.

They’re way more one-sided about the “war” (genocide) than I imagine the vast majority of Muslim and pro-Palestinian voters are, just in the opposite direction. What part of unconditionally supplying weapons to a country that is indiscriminately slaughtering civilians is “not one sided,” oh “rational_lib?”

      Stop. Just stop.

It’s a post-truth world. Just…give up. We’re all yelling into the void. These people are being force-fed “facts” consisting of cherry picked data and sound bites from every angle imaginable. It’s their news. It’s their friends. It’s their family, and their neighbors. Their community leaders, and their social leaders, and their religious leaders. It’s in their face, constantly, everywhere they go.

You can’t compete with that. That’s brainwashing on a societal level.

You can’t both be right, and be victorious, in that environment. Simply because for the same amount of effort you put out expelling one falsehood, they can be exposed to a thousand more.

I give up. I have no more faith in humanity. People are proudly digging their heads into the sand to avoid hard truths and then act shocked when “I told you so”. Fuck them, and fuck me for having to go down with them. Fucking children. Fucking ostrich children fucks. Pitiful. Repugnant. Deplorable.

You’re blaming humanity for being the way that it simply is. The lesson is that people don’t have the time or attention to fact check, and frankly I think we should have known that. We got complacent. So, now those of us who get it have to step in and make better competing systems.

If facts are going to win, it seems they need to win stealthily, really like they always have. Science and engineering took over the world with probably less than 1% of people really having any idea how anything actually works. Objective morality in terms of universal human rights and behavioral science can be integrated into a better regulated social media, for example. It just has to be more appealing somehow and easier to access. It also has to be sexy and come with some status, and other benefits.

I have no idea what that looks like, but thst is the mission progressives now must contend with. We have to win back people’s attention and convince them ours is the better way for them.

Why bother to fact check any one thing when it means hunting for the single edible chocolate in a pile of rabbit shit?

You can’t even fucking Google an answer anymore, as the AI generated response is trained on all the bad data that’s bloated the system.

I would settle for it being a view that won’t get you expelled from a college campus, primaried out of an elected office, or purged from a high profile business position.

They were upset by the democrats as well, which is probably why they turned to the only other party in the country. I know people are going to rush in and say “but the democrats would be better than trump!!” and that may be true to some extent, but the genocide started and progressed unabated under democrats. I guess Muslims can just get fucked, huh folks?

The genocide started in 2020? I kind of thought maybe there was some conflict in the region prior to that…but now I understand it was the Democrats that did everything and I will vote for Republicans, the party that specifically hates Muslims, instead.

More accurately the genocide started when israel was being established, but it greatly ramped up in 2023. I know you want to take the heat off of democrats, but they are just as complicit in this genocide. Yes, republicans are worse in general, but that does not absolve democrats of giving billions in support of genocide.

You don’t know what I want, and none of that is what I said, but keep pretending whatever approach you’re taking here is helpful, it seems to be helping you sleep at night. No one should be absolved of supporting Israel’s actions in Gaza. We were given 2 options, and I picked the one that I expect to result in less harm. The other option won and will now be in control of what happens to Gaza, and there’s no silver lining in that no matter how bad you want to find one.

The problem is that the conversation is being locked down to which of the two pro-israel parties to vote for. The conversation we should really be having is how to stop support for genocide outright. There are many here smirking at how people can vote for a candidate that would do things against their interests, but the reality is that both parties unconditionally support genocide. People are using the flimsy argument that democrats supposedly offer a kinder genocide, but the biden administration’s actions have not shown that to be the case.

You have a point in that support for israel has been a thing for a long time. If we see the complete annihilation of Gaza, it will not have been through the efforts of a single administration, but rather through a bipartisan tag team of ghouls.

Apologist? You mean like how people like you rush to defend democrats supporting genocide with “other guy worse”? You’re just falling for the two-party tag team. Democrats and republicans play off each other to continually move the country to the right and they rely on people thinking they’re actually opposing parties. Congrats on falling for it, I guess.

What’s really fucked up is you thinking I’m doing any cheering. You should really take some time for self-reflection for thinking that me criticizing democrats for the genocide they’ve been fully supporting for over a year now somehow means that I support trump. Who do we vote for if we don’t want genocide? No, I’m not asking for a supposedly “better” genocide, I mean NO genocide.
