Summary

A 24-year-old man, Daniel Schmidt, was arrested after allegedly disrupting a voting line and assaulting an election judge in Orland Park, Illinois.

Schmidt reportedly attempted to skip the line, ignored repeated instructions to wait, and punched an election judge who tried to stop him, knocking off their glasses.

Other patrons restrained him until police arrived, at which point Schmidt resisted arrest. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery against a person over 60 and resisting arrest.

That’s one way to stop a trump vote, ask them to follow the rules and be curtious to others till they punch you in the face and get ejected from the voting location.

We need more people that can take a punchat voting locations. We only have so many old people.

Sounds like he won’t have to worry about voting for a long time, since I’m guessing theres at least one felony somewhere in those charges.

    24-year-old Daniel Schmidt

tch. Danny, Danny, Danny. You done fucked up Danny boy.

Schmidt, huh? Good German name innit. Is that a tattoo on your neck there ol Danster? Hey - I hear in prison you can meet new people!

Y’see Danny - what we have here is something we call an egregious crime. Can you say egregious? . . . very close! Anyway, you’ve got a room full of people who saw you act like a total MAGAt and punch a poll worker. They don’t like that Danny. They’re gonna testify, Danny. You’re fucked on this one Danny.

But hey. Your demented rapist sociopath god will surely pardon you right? Good thing you didn’t make the national news with a big ol’ picture of your stupid ass face for - y’know - future gangs or whatever it is you may have wanted to do with your life or whatever.

On the other hand - it’s a hell of an origin story for someone who never shows up in social media or the news again and spends their life helping others because they fucked up so bad. There’s some audacious hope!

Why does it makes a difference if the person is over 60? Shouldn’t aggravated battery be aggregated battery no matter who the victim is?

Same reason it makes a difference whether the victim is a child, an elderly person is more likely to suffer long-term and more adverse effects from an assault.

Personally I’m glad to see that so many states make a distinction (hopefully with harsher consequences) for battery against older people, because of all the stories I’ve seen this week about magats punching old people. I haven’t seen any stories about them punching the ones who would be able to put up a fight, funny how that works.

You can hit someone 30 in the chest and it turns out they have a health condition and they die of heart failure, you can hit someone 61 that works security that will then kick your ass. In the end hitting people is wrong no matter who gets hit and should come with the same penalty no matter who gets hit.

That’s reductive. Give them any definition you like but you have to accept that children and the elderly are different than people aged, say, 18-60.

As I mentioned in another comment you can hit a 30 years old in the chest not knowing they have a heart issue and they will die on the spot, you can hit a 60 years old that works security that will kick your ass. Hitting someone is wrong no matter who it is and should lead to the same consequences no matter who it is, if that means making consequences harsher if the victim is 18 to 59 then so be it.

Basically you don’t want to accept that some classes require protection under this odd “everyone is the equal” thing.

For something like that? Hell yeah everyone is equal and punishment should be the same, you hit someone you don’t know the damage you’ll do, you deserve all the shit no matter who you hit.

But hitting an 85 year old or a 12 year old is just the same as hitting a 35 year old, per your argument.

its significant that the assaulter was 24 and the victim is over 60. Now granted he was lucky that pole worker was not my brother or David ‘The Rock’ Nelson.

Wonder how he’ll handle jail and a court process. That’s more waiting. Going to try punching the judge next? Your representing lawyer? Police officers? Dumbass.

If Trump claimed it was Joe’s fault because he punches elderly people in the face every day, 30+% of the country wouldn’t just believe it without question but would start claiming it immediately.

I really hope I’m wrong, but I fully expect at least one shooting incident at a polling place today. I’ve seen multiple posts by redcaps claiming they plan to go armed, and they seem to be spoiling for a confrontation. I really hope everyone can stay safe.

Nowhere in the article does it say anything to suggest who he was voting for. In a population of 300 million there are gonna be some number of crazies in every demographic

This is a good example of keeping your mind so open your brain falls out.

No. The article doesn’t explicitly say what party he planned to vote for. That’s right.

Almost all instances of election violence have been committed by the same party - even the attempted assassinations. I’m sure there could be examples of violence from the other party but I’m genuinely struggling to think of any.

So if a reasonable person hears someone in an election line was violent they’re not going to think “well there are crazies on both sides, so yaneverknow.”

        Agreed.

Ive put so much time into lemmy but im realizing it may be best to start looking elsewhere.

The amount of people that are fanatically ignorant is almost suspicious. How can this be a representation real people? Is this place just a magnet for no-lifers? Surely people dont want to spend their time reading or discussing articles like “Musk is realizing how dumb he is”.

Its like looking at the dumbest possible representation of my beliefs to make me question if my beliefs themselves are dumb lol.
