The fact that I’ve used my split system more for heating than I ever have for cooling really says a lot about Melbourne’s climate.

I wonder when this boy is going to come back. 2018/19 were fun, I remember it hitting 30 (or close to it) by 9am once. That was fun

Knocked the coffee on my desk over while on a work call, said “shit” very low as the other person was speaking but don’t think they heard me. Had to frantically clean the spill up while talking as coffee was dripping onto my carpet. A fair amount went onto the carpet… I’ve got this carpet stain remover that I’ve never used before, hopefully it does the trick.

I’ve been lucky - I’ve worked from this carpeted room for years and the worse floor spill has been water.

I hate my handbag again, it’s black and very practical but it’s looking uglier everyday. Time for a new one.

so I was looking at what bags people have , I would say 80% of the people around carlton have a black bag. 🫥

Grateful for Stardew Valley (even though I did spend three hours playing tonight). It helps me take my mind off of bullshit thoughts.

No good, thought the box had a p4 proc, turns out it does not. Freebsd reports “CPU does not support long mode” , meaning no 64 bit capacity. Too old. Debating scavenging for parts, or possibly turning it into a hat.

With the olympics coming up thought I’d check what time the opening ceremony is. 3:30am Saturday. Yeah nah. I’ll catch the highlights on the news.

There’s a good chance of them replaying the ceremony as they’ve done that in the past if memory serves me right.

You might even be able to replay it on the 9 website as well.

I did this exact same check tonight and same opinion. The timezone isn’t great for seeing any of the bigger events live. Not going to be like Tokyo.

Is it normal for an apartment (one of those 2-story ones) to not be perfectly flat?

I received a desk and chair from my employer… the chair has a tendency to kinda roll in one direction.

My windows don’t do that anymore, but I used to live in a house in the country that had a hole in the floor from where a large air con pipe (like on those portable ones) had been pushed through the floorboards, and 4cm gaps under all the doors. Being a 6 year old in a house that whistled was fucking terrifying, especially when my mum had the bright idea to go and tell me ghost stories

Also we had an illegal fireplace with an illegally blocked off chimney (nobody told us!) and our roof caught on fire, so after that there was no more warmth

I have a big hole in my floor from an old ducted heating pipe, but I have shoved a doormat and set of drawers on top of it so it does not whistle. I probably get a bit of air leak through all the old vents though. The worst wind incursions are through the laundry, which has a big gap under the door and around the pipe under the sink. Every time there is a big gust of wind the metal sink cupboard door rattles loudly. It used to have a dodgy sliding door to the room that would rattle too, but that broke a few years ago and I’ve replaced it with an insulated curtain that works well to keep the cold/hot out and definitely does not rattle.

I do have a completely blocked off chimney, but unless the possums who live in there start a fire there should not be a fire risk.

My biggest stress with this sort of weather is water leaks and the fear of a sheet of iron coming off the roof, as I’ve had issues with both of those things in the past. Every time I hear something rattle or drip I’m trying to work out if I have water coming inside - the idea of rain on the roof being a soothing sound is something I have not had in a long time. Maybe one day I will live in a house with a trustworthy roof and be able to experience that again.

I saw a video yesterday where a building inspector put a level on the ground in a new build and it wasn’t level. Also had water leaks and the like.

I wish more building inspectors actually inspected. All I’ve seen from most of them is they take a quick squizzy at the front door, and as long as it closes, all good!
