The main character is “half-blood” and his main sidekick is “muggle” herself, so I’d wager not so glorified. Of course, there’s an undercurrent of racism there, because the bloodlines really really matter. But this is fantasy fiction so I don’t how much of a sin it is. Bloodlines mattered in Tolkien too.

They’re usually run pretty much as a sort of a communistic hierarchy: decision-making is hierarchical and centralized; resources of all kinds are pooled; uniformity in behavior and looks is encouraged; internal and external propaganda is strong; and internal competition is discouraged. And finally, most of the benefits of the work, i.e. money, goes to the top.

So yeah, countries definitely aren’t corporations, but the end result of that thought isn’t perhaps what you imply.

As a European libertarian, americans and people in some far eastern countries work at their jobs way too much. It’s harmful in every kind of way imaginable. I don’t understand why it’s done.

I get that some profession may benefit from it, but having standard office personnel sit at their desk 12 hours every day? What the fuck. I refuse to believe this improves company profits in 90% of the companies.
