  • I love that this appears to have the option of installing an extended battery. I had one on my HTC Incredible, and got one for my wife too when she got her HTC Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt had CRAP battery life because of the drain from the new 3g radio, and the Inc was so small… I probably wasn’t helping the battery situation with my custom ROMs. But we didn’t mind a bit of extra bulk in order to achieve a full day+ of heavy use, and had a spare battery we could bring with us if needed, too.

And then the sleek, gorgeous HTC One m7 came out and after only one generation, sealed in batteries were the norm for every other phone I’ve ever owned. Now, the battery life wasn’t so bad - and so I didn’t mind, but all these years later I wish it were at least an option on the market.

  • I’m not sure anybody would make that call at her age. And to be clear, because you’re trying to infer that she is older than she is by calling her “over 70”, she’s 7 days past her 70th birthday; I’m not sure anyone would regard that as over 70, just 70. So at what point in her mid 60s was she supposed to decide “uh oh, I’m going to die soon”, exactly?

And there are so many uncertainties when a replacing a SCOTUS justice that come in to play, especially with one side who will do anything to install their totalitarian regime and the otherside is on their high horse getting their legs sliced to bits because they were too righteous to jump off for the battle - why kick that beehive before it’s ACTUALLY necessary?

  • She should resign, as one of the few level headed justices on SCOTUS? What kind of logic is that? You know she’s not a conservative justice, right? Like… I can’t think of any other reason you’d think this is a good idea, and during an election year no less. I see way less trolling on Lemmy than I did on reddit, but I’d like to believe this is trolling and not the actual opinion of a legitimate American voter.

She should keep fighting the good fight while we hope for a couple of justices to die or be impeached soon so we can fix the balance of SCOTUS.

  • I understand your perspective, but you were a victim of a fucked up system and continue to be. I agree that giving up tipping would require us to also support the workers getting a fair wage. But the whole rest of the world has proven your “shitty service” theory entirely wrong - they are able to pay food service workers properly AND give great service, and I suspect the whole world would chime in with a wealth of experience. And not paying slave labor wages doesn’t drive the cost of goods up as much as the capitalists would lead you to believe. Again, proven by the entirety of Europe.

  • This is why we’ve never seen or heard aliens out in the universe. Every civilization burns itself out faster than they can solve long distance space travel. Maybe the Great Filter is just the inherent nature of sentient beings. It would make me feel better to know that every other civilization to ever exist in the universe also destroyed itself in this manner, but maybe we are a special level of stupid.

  • I would happily move from the US south to Ireland. My wife and I went for our 10 year anniversary and it was the most magical place I’ve ever been. Freezing cold temperatures at times during our visit and still, the hills were still lush emerald green, the loughs glistened in the sunlight, we walked some incredible river trails and crossed stone bridges, walked and lived amongst the ancient history of castles and forts all across the north and through the center of Ireland. We spent 4ish hours a day driving from castle hotel to castle hotel, I never expected the drive to be one of my favorite parts of the trip. Deep forest to tall swaying grassland; sheer cliffs, hills, and mountains; rivers, lakes, and the sea. Just utterly, unbelievably beautiful. I think we’d sell our house and all our worldly possessions to live in a shack, if we could emigrate tomorrow.

Toss in there the benefit of living in the EU, but in reach of the British and Scottish countryside… Leave behind hidden US sales taxes for clearly defined pricing with VAT, ditch the nightmare of the US system for the EU healthcare system, there’s so much else to love.
