    Nashville isn’t this

Oh man, where to start? Maybe that these guys probably hang out at the Lewis Country Store?:

The day after the report was published, Lewis posted on Telegram: “I’m not a cuckservative, I’m an actual literal Nazi.”

Wanna know what happened during the pandemic? All the anti-vaccine and anti-mask idiots came out to play. Most people stayed silent. Didn’t want to get involved. Went on their days understandably stressed, though also very aware all the wrong around them.

This is no different. We are all so socially programmed to follow norms that we don’t want to upset anyone. We don’t want to raise our voices in public. Worried we may get embarrassed. Concerned that we are somehow in the wrong. Terrified that something will be taken from us.

Yet here we are in our passiveness, consistently losing ground to actual imbeciles, racists, and malicious actors. WE allow this to happen. Stand up to them or let their word spread unopposed and allow them to do what they want. Freedom of speech works both ways. So stand up and speak out.

    Fuck.

Especially the violence is always bad, violence never solves anything, just ignore bullies, avoid, do not confront, do not escalate attitude that has been being pushed for decades.

This is the result of good people not being willing to stand up for themselves in hostile, aggressive, and violent ways. Give up violence as a tool only used by the bad guys or by authorized individuals, then the bad guys will, once they have infiltrated and taken control for the organizations allowed to do violence, be able to use it with impunity everywhere.

Long ago, if you said or did things that are abhorrent to most decent people (as defined by the morals of the day at least) you’re likely to get a fist in your face. Today, although these things are abhorrent to most people, no one is willing to just punch someone for most things.

Remember when Buzz Aldrin just punched the guy accusing him of participating in the moon landing conspiracy? If 20-30% of decent people were willing to respond like that to Nazis, racists, homophobes, transphobia, and other abhorrent groups, they wouldn’t be bringing these things up in public.

But decades of this anti-violent attitude have resulted in a population who is largely decent but unwilling to act to preserve that decency.

The problem is that a lot of these lunatics are armed, either openly or concealed carry. Your average person isn’t going to be willing to take a gamble with their life in order to confront these assholes, they’re just gonna try and hurry on their way. The actual people who should be confronting Nazis are cops, but unfortunately the venn diagram of police and fascist supporters is a fucking circle.

Gonna point out something incredibly important:

This “doubting” needs to stop. We’re well past the point where we need to assume malicious behavior, even outstanding and evil behavior. If you are determined to doubt anything, doubt that whatever lengths they are currently willing to go will stop there if they don’t get their way.

Grew up in Nashville, still have racist family there. It absolutely is like that, just look at the state’s house of representatives doing shit like expelling the only two Black members of the House last year. Maybe Nashville dreams of being a liberal bastion in a sea of red, but right now it’s barely an island.

I think a lot of it is techbros that came to the city with remote jobs during the pandemic suddenly being surprised that their fantasy of “Western Country” is actually heavily rooted in racism. At the very least, that’s the person I know who occasionally sends me news from the region. They keep thinking that Nashville can be a great blue city like New York or Chicago if they “just get enough people to move here”, and I always tell em to keep dreaming.

Yeah, a lot of the power and political structure is old money, I don’t see them letting racism go. Plus they just gerrymandered a Democrat congressional district out of Nashville and made camping on public grounds (aka occupy protests) a felony. If anything, it’s more red.

As someone else said, the secret is that the US isn’t ‘turning into’, it’s been bad for at least a century. We’ve finally gotten to the point where racism is starting to get unpopular enough that it’s not just normal and largely ignored.

We have gone through cycles where the racists are unpopular enough to have to hide their intentions or “true feelings” behind convoluted rhetoric (red-lining housing, welfare and food stamp rules, or just blue lives matter, for instance), or just plain hiding (like the nighttime hooded gatherings).

We knew about them, but kept them marginalized. Now they are less marginalized, but also encouraged by a right wing nationalist Republican Party that has far too much of a chance of controlling the country in a few months.

The problem is that they are loud, and have majorities in places where their vote literally counts more. Low population red states especially (Wyoming, Idaho, Dakotas), and districts that have been gerrymandered around to weaken liberal democratic representation that overall outnumbers the racists, is seriously dangerous and un-democractic.

Hitler copied segregation from the Jim Crow South. Also, before that is even worse in the US. A sizeable part of the US population was forcibly taken from their families and subjected to a lifetime of hard labor and rape. This was considered legal and normal at the time.

Every so often you hear about some freako who has kidnapped someone and kept them alive for years chained in a basement. Maybe they have to work or do sexual favors for their captor. We now consider that person a victim and their captor the worst kind of criminal. That disgusting criminal was an average slaveowner in the US South.

this is literally the guy that’s supposed to be freedom incarnate violating state rights to get his fucking slave back illegally.

All countries have their crazies. Currently we’re seeing a wave of said crazy minority rising up (Duterte, Bolsonaro, AfD, Mussolini, RN). Sometimes we become so complacent as a people that we forget these kinds of ideologies exist. So they fester and attract others. Hopefully this time we don’t have to fight a war to top it and can change the tides peacefully.

If no one is doing anything about it, maybe Nashville is that. The racists are really a problem that can be fixed aside from removing them all. The real problem is those people standing with their backs to that and ignoring it.

It absolutely is, when I lived there the urbanites just pretended it was only the rednecks, “you know, the ones who live in the boonies”, even while being just as racist and virulently segregationist as possible.

      Uh…

Historians believe the Duke of Windsor actively collaborated with the Nazis during the Second World War

In 1937, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor set off on a tour of Germany, when the Nazi regime was in full control of the country.

“This would be all over the world — photographs of Wallis and Edward with Hitler,” historian Jane Ridley says in the documentary. “This would be acutely embarrassing and unacceptable [to the royal family].”

In October of that year, the duke wrote a thank you letter to Hitler after spending time with him at his mountain retreat.

“It’s written in German, but the translation reads, 'To the Führer and [Chancellor], the Duchess of Windsor and I would like to thank you sincerely. Our trip through Germany has made a great impression on us. Many thanks to you for the wonderful time that we had with you at the Obersalzberg,” Andrew Lownie, author of Traitor King: The Scandalous Exile of the Duke & Duchess of Windsor, says in the film.

was basically exiled by the Royal Family

You’d never know it given how he hobnobbed with Churchill and Nixon on the English taxpayer’s dime while living the jet setter celebrity lifestyle until his dying days. His remains lay in state at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

          Not exactly the hole-in-the-head treatment.

If only. Nazis were back to running West Germany practically before the smoke cleared. And for all the Stalinist rhetoric about summarily executing the top brass, don’t look to hard at what the Stasi on the other side of the Brandenburg Gate were doing before the war. Those fuckers were like fleas. They were all the fuck over the place within a few years of Potsdam. De-Nazification is one of the biggest lies in our history books.

What, so he just randomly decided to join the army in 1939

Failing to recognize motion parallax makes you think adopting nazi symbolism is a good idea?

Motion parallax: sitting in a parked car with your head down, vision tunneled in on reading or whatever. Car slides into the parking place right next to you. Briefly, it offers the cognitive-visual illusion that your car is rolling backwards. Looking up corrects for this, showing you that your car is not rolling backwards, the other car is the only one moving, up to a space right next to you.

These assholes desperately need to look up from their tunneled vision.
