Just looked at the forecast. I have to pick my bike from bicycle hospital on my way home. I will melt, I think.

When I look at the dating pool I think yup this is why I’m still single and I just don’t have the energy for it anymore.

I guess a lot of straights feel the same, even if statistically the odds are more in their favour overall.

Some things dramatically reduce the ‘pool’ to near zero sometimes. This actually a good thing. Dealbreakers are just that.

Sounds like you are looking for queer. I’m only a smidge that direction but 100% childfree. Filters did not offer a smorgasbord!

So how are people getting together? Or are they just not anymore?

And there’s element of it being s young people’s game too I suppose.

Real life. Bars, clubs, gigs, general public. You’ve got to be self aware and perceptive.

I don’t approach anyone who’s not already showing interest. And you have to be polite when rejected. No one wants to deal with a fuckwit.

I am so incredibly grateful that “meeting on the Internet” was still a bit weird when I met my wife. I just missed the whole Internet dating thing, and there were no smartphones/apps.

I would be utterly lost, today.

I had a uni lecturer who had a wife he met online in pre 96. That was genuinely weird! Meeting Boyo online was more a matter of: we’ve been at all these same gigs and know the same people, how the fuck have we not met without the net?

random musings (but basically instant pot FTW)

I got myself an instant pot for Christmas and it has been amazing on low energy / sad days. Today I was WFH and feeling terrible, but I managed to get rice on mid afternoon ((cup of rice, cup of water turn it on and wait for it to beep at me). Then I managed to saute some onions garlic etc, added lentils, random spices and some leftover tomatoes and I got yummo dal stew with the rice. Enough for a couple more meals too. And I feel much better for having eaten something hearty and homemade.

I realise when my energy is low I can chop a few things, but nursing multiple pots on the stove then cleaning them all up is too much. Having something that I can put stuff in and it does it all and just beeps when my stew/beans/whatever is ready is great.

Also been making yogurt in it which is also awesome.

I love this and it’s exactly why I love my slow cooker. Fry up a bit of meat and onion. Chuck it in with some other stuff and the end of the day I have meals. Absolute bliss.

That sounds awesome. I wonder if I can use my rice cooker in the same way. It’s a really good rice cooker with many settings.

A young brushtail just tried to have a go at Mr Woof through the glass of the back door! It was full on banging on the outside of the door right in front of him. Mr Woof is now outside doing a full security patrol while Miss Meow supervises from inside.

I wanted to today as well but the work would only pile up for me the next day which is even a busier day.

I really hate that I feel I can’t be off sick because of that.

That’s the reason I’ve taken like 5 sick days in 9 years and am drowning in excess annual leave.

Every day off I take results in about 1.2 days of extra work I need to catch up on when I get back 🫤

At least I’m very often solo in the office so my presenteeism doesn’t get others sick.

Yeah, this year the way things have fallen, my monday and tuesdays are loaded and if I’m not there the work just piles up.

The person I work with, while our roles differs, just leaves the massive backlog for me to maintain and this places so much pressure on me if I take the day off when I have a scheduled workload.

Hey all. Need some opinions on what I should do.

So today my health insurance policy got canceled automatically, which I didn’t know could happen, due to my payments lapsing.

I have 2 options, I can resume my old policy if I’m able to make a big enough or full payment (which I may not be able to meet).

2nd option is to take out a new policy within the next month.

There’s obviously differences between my old policy and the new policy depending on what I pick for extras and whatnot but I’m not sure what I’m losing out on and how much difference the limit are.

If I retain my old policy it could really strain my finances for awhile and if I’m able to do it at all.

If I don’t I won’t have to pay for the period I wasn’t covered and I’d be on a new plan and have to restart waiting periods.

In my life time I’ve only claimed on dental, optical and some prescription meds but not much else if that helps.

Happy to take some opinions about this, I have some time to deal with this, by end of next week.

I’d probably go with the new policy. Most of the waiting periods are only 2 months, it’s only a few more major things that are longer, and the worst case scenario just involves you needing to be treated as a public instead of a private patient.

I would recommend you think about whether the extras is actually value for money - the maximum payment amounts make it hard to get your money’s worth from those, you are probably better off putting the money the extras will cost into a savings account to pay for treatments.

I just spent 38 mins on hold to get more information and hung up.

Guess I’ll have to try again later this week. Already spent my entire lunch break on the line with them.

I guess I was more worried about what I’d lose with my main hospital cover and not so much my extras.

Maybe the call centre is office hours only? Another thing to note, is you can buy hospital cover and extras cover from different insurers if you find this is a better deal. No obligation to have it at the same place. Another thing to note is for extras, for a lot of people it’s not good value. Eg if you don’t wear glasses, don’t have hearing aids, no orthodontic work needed, the only thing left is dental. Emergency dental can cost heaps, but often the policies can be limited in what they cover and how much you would get back, so you may be better off just ensuring you have the money put away rather than paying for the insurance. Check the details against what you think your dental expenses would be.

I signed up for extras again as I have some major dental work coming up that should make it worthwhile, and have been tracking how much I am getting back. This year I have maxed out the optometrist benefits on a pair of glasses, had a full checkup and clean followed by four fillings (one of which was quite extensive) and it still hasn’t repaid the cost of a years cover.

They’re pretty small sadly, been cutting them in half and popping them inside a sandwich.

I don’t think the ones I have will go very far with pasta.

They are yummy and sweet though.

lyrics ( from google translate )

    spoiler

The sun will shine once more The light will reach the hearts From evil, hi, from evil the seed will be cremated Love will be eternal again Love will be eternal again The sun will shine once more The light will reach the hearts From evil, hi, from evil the seed will be cremated Love will be eternal again It is the final judgment, the story of good versus evil I want to have eyes to see the wickedness disappear The sun will shine once more The light will reach the hearts From evil, hi, from evil the seed will be cremated Love will be eternal again Love will be eternal again Love will be eternal again Love will be eternal again Again Again (The sun will shine once more) (The light will reach the hearts) (From evil, hi, from evil will be cremated the seed) (Love, love will be eternal again) (Love, love will be eternal again) (Love will be eternal again) (Again, again) (Will be eternal again, again) (Again)

TIL about “sad beige moms”. People so obsessed with image they turn their whole world beige ( and grey blue ) , including the world of their kids.
