Okay, I will admit that the last time I was a student was pre Y2K. But I just had to complete a LLN ASCF level 3 and WTF is that shit?

Feeling much better. Inventory of my house turned up an abandoned bag that isn’t mine. Got my iPad and wallet back…and some paperwork with a name and address on it.

Just got off the phone with the crime scene people. They want that paperwork

That’s great to hear you got your stuff back.

She must have panicked when you got back inside and dropped everything and bolted.

Something that’s been on mind is how quickly it happened as well.

She must have been camping and casing the place for everything to have happened like you described.

Think from now on you’ll need to lock the door behind you before you leave for anything.

I hope the police manage to catch up with this thief with the paperwork she left behind.

Oh, they do. I had these random creepy women keep coming back knocking at all hours. One of them then got arrested on the block with an elderly neighbours set of keys on her.

That was a few years ago and I’d forgotten about it but note to self.

I tried out GoGet today so I could do an IKEA Run and generally catch up on a few things. It worked well. Bit expensive (I probably could have got delivery for the cost of hire) but was nice to get out and wander round and not have to worry about how to get things home. I will use it again I reckon

Have a look at popcar, if there’s one in your area. By far the cheapest carshare I’ve seen (esp the $59/day rate incl 200 km). GoGet is hideously expensive but has the best locations. I have only ever used it if I have absolutely no other choice and ubers are more expensive

I’m in the inner west and there’s no popcars near me. Only Flexicar or GoGet out here and they are both expensive. Popcars might be worth a longer train trip if I wanted something for the weekend. Thanks for the tip tho!

    Bathroom decals are up.

    Decals

The cats are on the sliding door, so you can only see them when the door is closed. The butterflies are covering up some corrosion spots on the mirror, and I do not have much faith that they will all stay stuck.

How often do you guys wash your drink bottles? Google tells me I’m meant to wash it daily, which is a bit concerning because I do it about 30x less than that 😬

I usually go based on when it starts to smell weird. I usually go on the (really flawed) philosophy of “we didn’t evolve for millions of years just to die because of an infrequently cleaned drink bottle” but I feel concerned because I’m usually not that far behind what’s recommended

I wash the kids’ drink bottles nightly, because they get dirty from them having dirty hands etc. They’re grots, basically.

Mine, I wash probably less than weekly, but more than fortnightly.

It partly depends on what it is made of and what sort of opening it has. Plastic, particularly soft plastic, is a surface that algae and things can easily cling to so yucky things build up easily. You probably want to wash those out thoroughly on a more regular basis, although I wouldn’t say you have to do it daily unless it you do things like add lemon slices or have a stye that any contents can touch your mouth. Stainless steel, hard plastics and glass have surfaces that stay clean a lot longer, and if you are regularly changing the water in it there should not be a problem leaving it a long time between cleans - especially if you are filling with tap water as that still contains residual chlorine.

The lid itself is another matter as you are putting that in/against your mouth. That bit should be cleaned very regularly, probably a basic clean every day, with a thorough clean of any inside surfaces every week - if you have a style with a straw make sure you get a brush that can clean inside it.

I’ve got a stainless steel one from Kmart. Not particularly high end but it gets the job done

I don’t really clean any part of it very regularly at all, I just go by how it smells, looks, or feels. But oil test to keep that in mind

Ah going wakeboarding tomorrow, haven’t been since the Before Times so I imagine I’m going to be sore at on Sunday.

I just wish my fam wouldn’t organise it so last minute, but it’s hard when the weather is as fickle as it is

I love it, been doing it since I was a kid with my aunts, uncles, cousins, and Dad. My cousins are all overseas now though, so I reckon I can get a good sesh in. I’m hoping my muscle memory is still intact, I’m worried I won’t even be able to get up hahaha!

Getting fingerprint powder residue off my front door is a multi stage process. I’ve gone through scans of paper towel and have progressed to a face washer

The powder is carbon based and electrostatically charged a bit. So hand sanitizer may work in conjunction with face washer.

Wakeboarding got cancelled, sadly, as one of the drivers has gastro. Hoping they feel better soon.

In other news, the other day, I went to a crystal shop (Sacred Gems). I don’t subscribe to the new age belief that gems and minerals have energy or power, but fuck I love them. I go full Magpie “must have shiny rock!”

Here is the garnet I bought, I edited it a bit to be more indicative of the colours I see in the light. My phone seems to edit photos automatically and darken them? (I need to fiddle with the settings).

Okay… next time I’ll be less heavyhanded and draw the same thing as the guy because I kind of went off doing my own thing there. It’s recognisably a mug but not a good one (perspective of the top doesn’t quite match the rest of it) and the unevenly sharpened tip made it difficult to stroke down thin even layers. So it turned out harsher and was hard to gradually shade things to the right shape as I went. Note to self.

But one thing I found to be a problem was not my fault. I bought a cheap portable easel intended to help my posture using a limited space but the bottom ledge thing that the sketchbook rests on actually projects out enough to be in the way of my hand and my pencil.

It’s actually inhibiting my ability to draw on the bottom half of the page if I’m not using the ‘writing’ position (which in this exercise I am not meant to). When holding the charcoal overhand and vertically while gliding my fingernails over the paper the end of my charcoal pencil is actually hitting the damn ledge. I have to turn my hand sideways to get the bottom half of the page.

The bummer? I had already seen this could be restrictive and flipped that piece so the lip on the edge was downwards, trying to make it less annoying. I wonder if I could get a piece of thinner flatter balsawood or something to make a new rest but I don’t own a drill for the bolt holes.

Similar issue with anything that has that rest really. I wonder if I’m doing something very obvious wrong or the art guy just has a much larger easel and canvas space to work with so he doesn’t have to use all of it/the awkward half

Can’t sleep despite feeling gross. Watched Hirokazu Koreeda’s Monster. That was one of his best by far, much less of the cloying sentimentality that always crops up at the end of his films and tarnishes the emotional impact of otherwise sensitively observed characters. Those kid actors were amazing, too. I was fully engrossed. Can’t believe I didn’t watch this earlier. Highly recommend. I also want to visit the town it was set in, so beautiful…

Back to attempting sleep and no dystopian nightmares tonight, thanks.

There are a lot of bangs outside. I guess we’re celebrating being Australian by blowing things up. Fortunately Mr Woof and Miss Meow don’t seem concerned.
