Her face in that thumbnail, so happy, and I think a bit at peace too. True complete peace with the horror that she’s faced will be a long time coming, but she’s channeled that immediate rage into justice. And started a larger movement to combat the ingrained misogyny in their (ours?) culture. It’s way too short a sentence for him, but he probably won’t make it out alive.
It’s the maximum legal sentence, and 20 years is absolutely no joke
A real shame. With that many assaults, it really should have been a longer sentence.
He got the maximum sentence.
depends on if they had chosen to sentence him for 51 crimes or one crime with 51 incidences. They should have sentenced the husband to 51x20 years, or 1020 years in prison.
We’re in France.
That’s not how it works in France at all. You get prosecuted on all charges, but only condmned for the most grievous offence. So for a murder+assault+trespassing case, if found guilty of all charges, your sentence would only be for murder.
As all condemnation it takes context into account, like the assault + trespassing, but if there were limits on murder sentences then you’d only be condemnable to that crime’s legal sentencing limits (there are none for murder, which is the only crime that has no sentencing limits).
The US prison system is made for maximal punishment instead of giving a chance for redemption.
The idea is to keep the prisoners away from society for as long as possible… And got further twisted by for-profit prison as the longer the sentence is, the longer they keep their slave… Sorry, prisoners, for cheap labor.
I want my wife to do me like that but I don’t want her going to jail for it. I’d there a way that we could all have more and better sex and not go to jail? It would fucking suck if all you wanted was so easily reachable and achievable without harm to anyone but totally illegal. Like what if reading too many science books actually was illegal and you could go to jail for that?
You want your wife to drug you and then let 50 men rape you?
Well, if you consent to that, then nobody will go to jail and all will be well.
Unless the drugs are illegal, I guess. Use legal drugs and write your consent. Have a lawyer look it over. Then, have fun!
I should have read the words
It would fucking suck if all you wanted was so easily reachable and achievable without harm to anyone but totally illegal.
Do tell sir, how what this woman went through wasn’t ’harming anyone’.
Like what if reading too many science books actually was illegal and you could go to jail for that?
That’s an odd thing to compare to rape
Well the main difference there would be between this case and sex between you and your wife I’d hope would be there was consent between you two.
There should always be consent. That’s number 1.
Dominique Pelicot emerges as a beacon of altruism within his community, having pioneered a novel form of communal sharing by extending the intimacy of his personal life to his neighbors. His home has transformed into a haven where communal bonds are not only formed but also celebrated through an unconventional expression of togetherness.
His vision transcends the conventional boundaries of charity, illuminating a path where community support can manifest in deeply personal ways. Through his actions, Dominique has not only united individuals but has also ignited a discourse on the essence of community involvement, showcasing an innovative approach to fostering solidarity and empathy among neighbors.
Those who have engaged in this communal act are not merely participants; they embody a brotherhood where personal bonds eclipse societal norms, coming together in a shared experience that symbolizes the pinnacle of communal living.
At the heart of this narrative stands Dominique’s wife, whose involvement, though complex and not of her own volition, has catalyzed a profound discussion on the extent of personal sacrifice for the collective benefit.
Critics and defenders alike often overlook the broader implications of such an act, focusing instead on the surface without recognizing the profound unity and shared experiences it seeks to forge.
Dominique’s legacy is one of embracing diversity, challenging conventional norms, and promoting inclusivity, whether it pertains to race, sexual orientation, or individuals with autism or Down syndrome. He stands as a true hero, redefining the very essence of what it means to serve one’s community.
It is a lamentable loss for those like AdmiralPatrick (along with his numerous alternate accounts), FlyingSquid, JavaJons, JordanLund, and the creator of the MBFC bot, among other autistic and fat woke virgin power creep retards on here, for whom sending a signal message to Dominique was their only hope to have sex with a real woman. Their inability to partake in this profound act of sharing reflects a broader cultural shift, where the nuances of such altruism might be misinterpreted or dismissed by those who cannot see beyond the contemporary narrative, leaving them forever bereft of such an intimate communal experience.
Many defendants arrived at the hearing with their bags packed ready for prison. One of them was in tears as he hugged his companion before entering the courtroom.
Aww, boo fucking hoo. 🖕🏾
You can bring a bag to prison??
European prisons are different from American ones because they weren’t modeled after slave pens

“okay but women not wanting to date men is just overreacting” - a sentiment we see even here on fucking Lemmy.
Fifty different men. He also trained these men how to rape their wives.
If you dictate such a profound life decision based on some bizarre cause célèbre, you are overreacting. If you just make reactionary comments on the Internet, sure, carry on.
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say
I can’t imagine wanting/needing to rape my wife. There are so many layers to that I don’t even know where to begin wrapping my brain around it.
I dated a woman who badly wanted me to roleplay raping her. I knew I could never get into it, and if that’s what she wants she should be able to have it I guess, so I broke up with her instead.
I dated one of those long-distance once and it was really fucking weird. We would have phone sex and she would want me to talk about myself raping her. I tried it once or twice and I was so bad at it that she stopped asking me to phone rape her. Last I checked she moved across the country to probably get fake-raped by another internet boyfriend of hers.
“okay but women not wanting to date men is just overreacting” - a sentiment we see even here on fucking Lemmy.
We’ve dodged a lot of the usual garbage from Reddit over here, but that one definitely stuck around. The only negative comments I’ve received on any of my lemmy accounts are guys furious when you point out men are more violent partners. Like they just cannot admit that as a society the ‘boys will be boys’ mentality was used to allow a lot of awful behaviours like rape. Hell, Revenge of The Nerds has a rape scene in it and people only recently started to speak out against it.
So, sorry for the downvotes, but at least we all know it’s a bunch of insecure men. Maybe they’ll learn, maybe they won’t, but you have allies here in the mean time.
When we were dating I told my to be wife she should not trust any man even me.
Personally, I have raped exactly the number of women in my life that I have wanted to. 0.
Just because you are a man, it does not automatically make you untrustworthy, but it is prudent to exercise caution with all people in general—we are unpredictable apes.
People are definitely shit, in general, but we shouldn’t ignore statistics because of that. Men are awful. We’re the worst.
yeah I have since amended to really just people in general. Another thing people need to remember is that unfortunately people tend to be screwed by the people closest to them. We are a sad little species.
We are a normal species. It is not unusual for animals to pick on the weak—just look at how many mammals eat the runt of the litter.
The lesson, I believe, is to take your own protection seriously, and not underestimate the potential of people around you due to familiarity. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.
yeah the last sentence is perfect.
The irony of people downvoting this… Can’t see the forest through the trees.
Misandry is ok but misogyny isn’t?
And ya’ll wonder why people think there’s a double-standard…
You’re in a thread about a woman who was raped by over 50 different men, and all you’re concerned with is “WhAt AbOuT tHe MeN!?!?!”.
Crawl out of your own asshole please.
Err… this comment chain was literally started due to misandry.
1 in 5 women in the US are raped at some point in their lives. It’s not misandry to avoid men when there’s a 20% chance you’ll be raped. That’s just good sense.
Unhappy with that? Work to create a safer society for women, instead of trolling a post about a woman who was raped hundreds of times by fifty different men.
Yeah, I’ve heard the same thing about why it’s acceptable to be afraid of certain minorities because they “statistically commit more crimes.”
Neither are excuses for bigotry and prejudice.
^
White people becoming black the moment a woman refuses an open-top drink just sitting on a table at a party. What an absurdly bad faith argument to make. I assume you’re trying to get me to write several paragraphs explaining why it’s so damn stupid just so you can reply with a one word gatcha or something.
Anyways, eat shit incel.
Where’d you learn that word. That’s not in the Bible.
They’re still confused why women chose the bear.
Ya. I’m a man and I’d also 100% choose the bear.
“okay but women not wanting to date men is just overreacting” - a sentiment we see even here on fucking Lemmy.
I was thinking it really wasn’t that bad on here as you described, but I just read some other comments under this post and I was dead wrong. Disappointing.
seems way toooo lite a sentence
It’s the maximum sentence in france, I believe.
Sounds like a great place to be a criminal
I think you underestimate how long 20 years is. But yes, in europe we usually try to improve someone while in prison so we get back a funtioning member of society, not enslave them for life like in the US.
For him, it will be life.
Good
Is it good enough?
For him? Probably yes. But what about the other 50 assholes?
At 72 it’s probably a life sentence.
Eligible for probation at 13 years and 4 months. I hope he suffers.
They should’ve thrown out the maximum years for a case like this. They should’ve thrown out parole eligibility too.
If you can throw it out for one case you can throw it out for every case.
Unlike the US, most countries in the EU - including France - have a justice system that is not attempting to maximize recidivism, which is why maximum sentences exist for every crime except murder.
Furthermore, at least in Germany the constitutional court ruled that life sentences without the eligibility of parole violate human dignity as such sentences would take away all hope from prisoners which significantly harms them. I wouldn’t be surprised if France had similar rulings.
“Life means life, no exceptions” is against the ECHR, in particular Article 3.
20 years is oz of pot numbers
This is France
Sir this is a Wendy’s
Whoosh?
(In case this doesn’t translate, this indicates you completely missed that this is the point of the joke. It is funny in a very very dark way that my country will put people in jail for 20 years over a few doses of marijuana while France picks the same time frame for gang-raping and drugging a woman. In most instances I think the french numbers would be more sane, but in this case I think those men deserve life in prison because they cannot be redeemed and must be removed from society.)
Watch precisely how they defend all the men. Rape is rape. No matter what. Lock them up, forget where you have put the Keys.
Haven’t seen a single person defending them, tbh.
The attorneys do.
That one doesn’t seem a fair shot. All criminals, no matter how egregious, are defended by somebody.
You’re right. I made my point a bit unclear. Excuse me.
The way the men argued about “not knowing” they going to rape someone. I shouldnt have seid attornys to begin with.
I saw one attorny in an Interview telling what their clients say.
Y’all ever notice how much male sexuality is performative for the benefit of other men? I’m not saying that they’re gay, they just seem more motivated by peer approval and status than touching a girl.
I recently saw an interview with a stripper who said that the dudes who wanted attention from the girls used $100 bills and were discrete, while the dudes who tossed 100 $1 bills were more interested in the attention of their buddies.
Another interesting thing, in that same vein, is asexual or lesbian women that just go along with being in heterosexual relationships with men because it’s ‘normal’ or convenient.
Extrapolating this incident to male sexuality at large is idiotic.
The guy is right though. Testosterone peaks as a result of social circumstances.
Nothing about testosterone makes you sadistically drug and sexually exploit your wife for decades.
It does decrease sensitivity to consequences and decrease empathy. It also results in dominance seeking behaviour. It’s why what happened to the victim, is done more often by men than women.
There’s a weird thing with “conquest”, pulling the ladies, and being somewhat deviant that’s tied to manliness and straightness for some reason.
Laughs in lesbian
Lesbians being well known as universally well adjusted women at the pinnacle of mental health? No weird paleolithic-brain shit going on at all? Nice.
I don’t think I said any of that lol
No, that’s accurate. But laugh implies derision and sense of superiority…over the thing you were responding to…
I mean we are superior for other reasons. But no. The same internalized misogyny still applies. That’s why I wrote laughs in lesbian as if conquest is just a straight man thing.
Your sarcasm about us being the pinnacle of mental health is why you got the downvotes. It’s an allusion to gay = crazy, which ya know, with us being in the DSM until more recently is offensive.
I mean the literal post above was about men being crazy. Which…yes. All humans are insane. But it’s sounding like we both wildly misinterpreted the other so 🤷.
Never heard of this gay=crazy thing, if you’re considering the DSM I assume much much older. And because I had to, I checked. 1974 it was removed, which explains why I’ve never heard of it. Still has the concept of distress over ones sexuality but…I mean… super anti-gay republicans are proof of this actually being a very sad mental health problem that needs therapy.
“Hurr durr, everyone I don’t like is a closet homosexual.”
They literally said that they’re not saying they’re gay. It’s the second sentence for fuck sake.
Well, they should stop being republican, then.
