So you’re telling me:
There’s a giant pipe that runs all the way from Canada to Los Angeles, with a massive valve that takes a day to turn. Its current configuration is set to dump all of that water into the Pacific. To solve the water crisis we merely need to spend a day to turn this massive valve, the size of that building behind you, the other way so that the water goes to Los Angeles instead?
Truly very stable genius stuff here.
Hes talking about the mile wide Columbia river, which meanders through Canada, Washington and Northern Oregon. At no point does it even get close to touching California, much less LA.
To do this would be one the most gigantic and intense infrastructure projects our country has ever undertaken, which would take decade’s at an unimaginable cost.
He lists this as “a big valve you just turn.” Absolute moron.
He lists this as “a big valve you just turn.”
Even stupider than that he calls it a fucking faucet.
You give him way too much credit. I doubt he even knows the Columbia River exists. He just says random shit.
He’s got to be the most extreme example of Dunning-Kruger effect out there.
Thinks he’s a certified genius, meanwhile all his handlers have to break down concepts for him in such simplistic terms, he ends up literally thinking injecting bleach or putting powerful UV light inside the body are the solutions to COVID, or raking a forest is an actual solution to preventing widespread wildfires.
“And Canada will pay for it!”
Canada here. Sorry bruh, but we are all tapped out.
S’okay - if he says it’s going to happen, you can pretty much bet it won’t happen
I think that’s also pretty much universally true with all our politicians
Sort of true - trump takes it to a whole new level though.
For someone in BC, hearing America talk about our water like this is kind of terrifying
trump isn’t America. He doesn’t speak for most of us.
That will be believable if he doesn’t win. The fact that it’s cloee is absolutely nuts to an outsider.
The fact that it’s close shows that there is a problem with our voting populace.
Rarely do more than 40% of eligible voters turn out for an election. On top of that, the Electoral College - our representative voting body - can cause the popular vote to be overturned in favor of the representative vote - Al Gore in 2000, Trump in 2016 are examples. Relative to this, in order to win, Democrats have to be polling at 6 to 9% above the Republicans to be a real contender.
The day a Republican loses via Electoral College but wins the popular vote is the day this will change. Frankly, though, it’s almost impossible for that to happen due to the way the EC distributes votes to the less populated states.
Fuck our rigged system and fuck this orange baboon.
Actually without the electoral college there wouldn’t have been a republican president in the last 32 years.
There’s also the cheating.
Gerrymandering out the wazoo, purging voter rolls, closing polling stations, literally taking away a ballot box as a photo op, passing insane “election ‘integrity’ commission” laws that upend everything else - and that doesn’t account for voter intimidation and outright straight-up fraud that can happen.
All that stuff is easy to do when you’re already in power. And wrong.
Our system has a vital flaw. The electoral college. It was a necessity at one point given the technology of the time it was adopted, but now it is a relic and needs to go away.
It’s only close because of our broken electoral process that gives land more influence than citizens. He didn’t even win the popular vote for his first term.
National polling has Kamala up by +6 at best. Seems like 44%+ of Americans seem comfortable and supportive of Trump. The fact that it’s that close at a national level, with all Haitians eating cats rhetoric, still seems insane to an outsider.
Most polls are performed by calling landlines. The majority of people with landlines are elderly or own businesses.
There is no way the pollsters don’t know this and account for it
It’s not 44 percent of Americans. It’s 44 percent of the people poled. I can guarantee that number is skewed because a ton of left leaning people wouldn’t bother wasting their time not getting paid to answer some pole. I know my friends and I are in that boat.
“poled” 😂😅
Don’t pollsters account for this? There’s a reason why polling still exists and is talked about, the final results do reflect reality to some degree.
It’s 44% of all those people polled who are registered voters.
It seems insane to us “insiders” too.
The point is, anything more than negligible is fucking nuts!
Even if it’s 44% of just idiot luddite conservatives, that’s still 44% of idiot luddite conservatives too many!
Hilary was polling at roughly the same numbers as close as two weeks before that election he won back in 2016, if I remember correctly. It was looking like a clean sweep for her, and it was anything but. So don’t get comfortable yet.
Yep, almost the exact same spread in the national polls, and still lost. Absolutely no comfort for me with numbers where they are.
Not sure how that’s supposed to ease the anxiety of Canadians.
Maybe they should build a wall to keep the Americans out
hopefully they will make us pay for it.
It’s absolutely nuts to a lot of insiders here too. I can’t imagine a worse candidate, yet about 1/3 of the country seems to think that the choice in this election is a no-brainer, but in the exact opposite way that you would expect. The war on education led us here.
Close in swing states. Just means our election system is broken.
They wouldn’t be swing states if everyone could/did vote. Look at the typical voting percentage, it’s very sad.
currently ~52% unfavorable views of Trump, so he literally does not speak for most of us.
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/favorability/donald-trump/
Trump is a criminal, a fascist, a literal traitor twice over (Jan 6 + loyalty to Putin over America), and fucking senile. Anything less than 99% unfavorable is ridiculous!
Wow, it’s only 52%? That’s so disheartening
Yep. Never once has Trump exceeded >=50% of votes or even approval rating.
Don’t you just love our slave era Electoral College…?
He still got 63 million votes in 2016 (46.1%) and 74 million in 2020 (46.8%). More people voted for trump even after that disaster of a presidency.
Even though he never got over 50%, 74 million is still way too much for anyone to be comfortable with. It clearly indicates that something is wrong with many Americans.
It clearly indicates that something is wrong with many Americans.
Sadly I think it indicates systemic failures and Americans are the effect and much less the cause.
What I mean is that a combination of:
- Electoral college & Money in Politics
- Diminishing education standards (e.g., critical-thinking skills, civics, US History)
- “News” media-entertainment that legally spreads disinformation (combined with foreign operatives).
… All culminates in a society that is very easily duped. I talk to Trump supporters all the time and while sure many are simply greedy psychopaths… Many are also just “nice, but kinda dumb” in that they have no capacity to parse fact from fiction and so are easily-grifted targets for lies and choir-preaching (sometimes quite literally from Sunday church).
Don’t forget microplastics in the brain.
I’m worried that’s actually going to turn out to be a thing.
Oh for sure. No doubt does Lead exposure (firing ammunition elevates levels), boomer-era leaded gasoline (and modern aircraft), paint, etc. + Traumatic Brain Injuries (CTE) from football + Substance abuse —namely alcohol play a part. Microplastics may very well be the next thing…
74 million is still way too much for anyone to be comfortable with. It clearly indicates that something is wrong with many Americans.
To put a finer point in it, even just one million is way too much! The fact that 22% of the total population is suffering some sort of mass delusion and is in cult-like thrall to a demented fascist is unfathomably catastrophic.
He most definitely does not speak for us, but I share your pain that he has a following as large as it is. Years of unchecked indoctrination and the dismantling of the public schools and human nature giving is the authoritarian personality (which seems to be about 30% of people everywhere)
Ontario here…
IDK what Trump is trying to say here, but I don’t like it.
That would be one huge faucet to take water from Ontario to Southern California …. Plus it would be tough getting around the Great Lakes
The only thing that can stop us is a wall paid by Mexico.
Except there isn’t even a way to get water from BC to LA. They’d be better off getting it from the Great Lakes, at least they wouldn’t have to build a pipeline through thousands of miles of mountains.
He’s a fucking idiot. Gravity confuses him.
I’m sorry, are you saying that a pipeline from the great lakes to Los Angeles would have to go through less mountains than from British Columbia?
* gestures vaguely at the entire mountain west *
Huh. For some reason I thought you could go around the south end without hitting too much, but yah, it’s probably easier to go down the central plateau.
Ah well, guess BC is fucked.
Yeah you could probably find a path through New Mexico and Arizona that’s not too mountainous, like along I-10.
But really where the US “needs” more water is where all the farms are. The cities don’t use much in comparison. It’s just a lot in a small area compared to the farms distributed in the big valleys.
I’m starting to think this Trump guy isn’t very intelligent.
Imagine the intelligence of the people who believe in him. Then realize that’s a large portion of the voting population.
Last step: cry.
Oh I’ve been on the last step for a few years now.
Think about the intelligence of the average person. Half of all people are as dumb or dumber. On second thought, don’t think about it. The world has enough eugenicists.
He says it like it is…not really tho
Haha…what?
I can’t believe Biden was tapped out but this guy is still talking.
You can turn the wall of a building in one day?
bucket of paint and a positive attitude buddy, knock that shit out
That’s easy. The hard part is to justify why you needed to permanently flood LA to make a point.
I actually see nothing wrong with that part. From my experience in LA, the flood will quickly be rebranded as a “swim-up bar” and real estate costs will double. And it’ll still be less humid and have a more diverse landscape than where I live in Texas…
The stupid part is not that he said this
The stupid part is that a good percentage of a large powerful country like the United States allows and accepts a political leader like this to speak for them.
Turnip isn’t the idiot
Everyone else is for listening to him and keeping him in a position of power
Buckle up, here in Australia, every couple of years a political party has the bright idea of damming water in Australia’s tropical north and pumping it across 1000km of desert to Australia’s farmland regions
I don’t know if you remember a couple years ago when they were finding barrels of bodies, guns, and other fun things in Lake Mead (near Vegas)? That was drying up because the river that feeds it has been getting diverted for farm use (and probably Nestlé, too). It’s a huge problem in California, as well. Whole ecosystems are disappearing due to damming and diverting of rivers and streams. It’s not at all sustainable
But also, lake Mead is an artificial lake created by the Hoover Dam
Who’s the bigger fool? The fool or the one who follows him?
- Ben Kenobi
- Huquad
- Ben Kenobi
Except the majority doesn’t want this moron. Yes, though, I do agree with your sentiment generally
The fact that anything more than a vanishingly-small minority wants him is an absolute catastrophe and an incredibly damning indictment of American society in and of itself. Trump’s nonsensical babbling is literally beyond “schizophrenic homeless dude on the street corner with a ‘the end is nigh’ sign”-level gibberish.
People keep singling America out here as if right wing fascism hasn’t been on the rise everywhere.
It’s not damning of American society it’s damning of humanity in general.
When things get tough a large portion decides to dig their heels in the ground and act like nothings wrong at all.
Lay off the crack, grandpa.
I honestly can’t tell when things like this are actual quotes from him or just people making fun of him. It’s absurd that he has so much power.
He only has power because people blindly obey him. If they treated him like they treat anyone else, he’d just be some backwards talking schmuck.
It’s always an actual quote.
It’s an actual quote. The portion used here starts at about the 1:30 mark.
The part that got me was at the end he says something like “well anyways, you’ll have water and also illegal immigrants won’t kill your family”.
Great segue that. Masterful oration. That must be “the weave” that he keeps talking about. The thing where everything comes together “perfectly”. 🙄 /s
Has he tried siphoning American water from the ocean? It’s much closer and there’s lots of it. Could even bottle it directly at the source and slap his logo on it.
Ah more of the ol’ Hallucinating AI bit eh.
whenever he talks nonsense like this I think it’s because someone on his staff tried to explain something as they would to a toddler and he was barely listening so he repeats 5% of the words that grabbed his attention and mad libs the rest.
mad libs
HUMONGOUS COCK BALLSLY
honestly not that distinguishable from his speeches
He’s finally lost it for real this time
This time?
I feel like he used to seem crazy, but it was like a Tik Tok trend you don’t get, but with racism, and there’s an audience for it, but ever since he got on that Hannibal Lecter thing… I think NOW it’s just crazy
What about eating the cats and dogs?
Racist, but everyone is just making fun of it. “They’re rapists” struck a chord and fueled whole news cycles where the pearl clutching only spread the word. Eating the dogs and cats is a Tik Tok song meme everyone is laughing at them about because it’s so absurd and dumb. Granted it’s not been great for the residents of Springfield, but it’s a “Kamablah”-style rhetorical whiff I can’t see 2016 Trump making.
I’d like to see Grady’s take on this engineering stable genius.
Seems like all the competent people went to finance and justifying war think tanks, and we are left with these type of clowns for politics
