Fuck Israelis, why are they welcome anywhere? Every Israeli, every Russian, should be sent the fuck home.

Generalisation like that is dangerous, no matter the context. I believe Israel and Russia should not be allowed to participate in the games under their nations flags due to the current war crimes their countries are committing, but there are plenty of israeli and russian individuals who are opposed to the wars, and should not be collectively punished.

Being born in Russia or Israel should not be grounds for hatred, choosing to support their regimes current actions should.

        Yes I completely agree.

We should be very careful to not offend the citizens of these countries that are committing genocide.

What a terrible misstep that would be.

I really hope that these countries are never subjected to public shame.

        That would be so terrible.

Ok, then by extension lets tell every single American that they should not be allowed anywhere else in the world, and deserve to be publicly shamed since they are funding Israel’s genocide, have a prior president and current candidate who’s in bed with Putin, and a corrupt justice system.

By your logic, every single American is a horrible human being and deserve public shame for just existing, no matter if they voted for the shameful stuff their country did or not, they just don’t have any place on this earth.

What you’re rooting for is literally hate speech, and you’re closer to being a nazi than many russians and israelis. If you can’t see that, you’re dumb as shit, and the irony is hysterical. Start realizing that the world is not as black and white as you want to believe.

I feel like 99% of the people here on Lemmy, including me, are heavily against Israel and their ongoing genocide, which I feel I made pretty clear above that I was at least.

You’re also putting words in my mouth by saying “I really hope that these countries are never subjected to public shame.” (making it sound like I protect Israel as a country, something I did the opposite of in my comment), when I fully agree that shaming the COUNTRY Israel would not only be OK, but something I highly encourage. I stand fully behind shaming, blaming, and punishing Israel as a country for their genocidal actions, but the Israeli population at large should not have to take the blame for what their government does.

And coming back to my first point of the majority of Lemmy being against the Israeli genocide: you’re still managing to get out-ratio’ed in the comments, which should kind of be a wake up call for you to at least try to re-evaluate you thoughts on the matter, or at the very least come up with some constructive reasoning as to why it would be OK to shame an entire population based on the actions of their government. Perhaps you’re able to sway me into understanding your point? Or maybe the best you’ve got is some LMAO-comeback?

Haha I never put words in your mouth. I directly quoted you. You did that to yourself.

And what is it that I need to rethink? That genocide is bad? Y’all can “ratio” me all you want, but I will never go back on my stance that genocide is wrong and that Israel is committing war crimes and atrocities against innocent civilians.

I’m not going to try and convince you of anything, because we clearly live in different realities. You think that it’s a “hate crime” and that I’m a “Nazi” because I don’t feel bad about people shaming Israel. There is no getting through to someone that reacts in such a manner.

I say Israel is committing genocide and should be shamed for it.

You say Israel is committing genocide and therefore every single Israeli should be shamed for it.

Not every single Israeli is committing genocide or stand behind it, therefore I do not believe the ones who don’t should be shamed for it. The same way not every American vote trump, and therefore I believe not every American should be shamed for what he stands for.

There, with less text, maybe you can understand what is being said? Because you seem to keep trying to change the narrative to fit the enemy you think you’re fighting. But if you’re still adamant about wanting to blame an entire population for what their government does, then I will just stop right here because you’re simply a degenerate and lost case.

It’s not about offending. It’s about stereotyping and prejudging people.

It’s very easy to go from Russia/ Israel does bad things so the Russians/ Israelis aren’t welcome, to xenophobic hatred of all Russians/ Israelis.

It’s a fine line to balance because obviously, being Russian/ Israeli associates you with the actions of your country, and a certain percentage of the population in those countries will agree with their government’s policies. But not all of them do, and to make general sweeping statements like none are welcome leads you close to the xenophobia that those opposed to Russia/ Israel tend to condemn.

In WW2 America rounded up and imprisoned loads of Japanese-Americans, regardless of whether they supported Japan or had any evidence of them aiding Japan. This has generally been viewed as a bad thing done to innocent people. Rhetoric like this could lead to a similar situation.

People are people. Some good, some bad. Some perform shitty actions on purpose, some perform shitty actions through ignorance, and some oppose shitty actions. But where someone is born doesn’t determine if they’re shitty or not, so sweeping statements like “Israelis are not welcome” gets far too close to xenophobia for some people’s liking.

Obviously, what Russia and Israel are doing is awful and must be condemned, but a bit of casual xenophobia isn’t going to do anything to stop them. Official blocks of official teams would do far more to hinder them and their image of acceptance in the international community than blocking their citizens from spectating.
