  • I say Israel is committing genocide and should be shamed for it.

You say Israel is committing genocide and therefore every single Israeli should be shamed for it.

Not every single Israeli is committing genocide or stand behind it, therefore I do not believe the ones who don’t should be shamed for it. The same way not every American vote trump, and therefore I believe not every American should be shamed for what he stands for.

There, with less text, maybe you can understand what is being said? Because you seem to keep trying to change the narrative to fit the enemy you think you’re fighting. But if you’re still adamant about wanting to blame an entire population for what their government does, then I will just stop right here because you’re simply a degenerate and lost case.

  • I feel like 99% of the people here on Lemmy, including me, are heavily against Israel and their ongoing genocide, which I feel I made pretty clear above that I was at least.

You’re also putting words in my mouth by saying “I really hope that these countries are never subjected to public shame.” (making it sound like I protect Israel as a country, something I did the opposite of in my comment), when I fully agree that shaming the COUNTRY Israel would not only be OK, but something I highly encourage. I stand fully behind shaming, blaming, and punishing Israel as a country for their genocidal actions, but the Israeli population at large should not have to take the blame for what their government does.

And coming back to my first point of the majority of Lemmy being against the Israeli genocide: you’re still managing to get out-ratio’ed in the comments, which should kind of be a wake up call for you to at least try to re-evaluate you thoughts on the matter, or at the very least come up with some constructive reasoning as to why it would be OK to shame an entire population based on the actions of their government. Perhaps you’re able to sway me into understanding your point? Or maybe the best you’ve got is some LMAO-comeback?

  • Ok, then by extension lets tell every single American that they should not be allowed anywhere else in the world, and deserve to be publicly shamed since they are funding Israel’s genocide, have a prior president and current candidate who’s in bed with Putin, and a corrupt justice system.

By your logic, every single American is a horrible human being and deserve public shame for just existing, no matter if they voted for the shameful stuff their country did or not, they just don’t have any place on this earth.

What you’re rooting for is literally hate speech, and you’re closer to being a nazi than many russians and israelis. If you can’t see that, you’re dumb as shit, and the irony is hysterical. Start realizing that the world is not as black and white as you want to believe.

  • Generalisation like that is dangerous, no matter the context. I believe Israel and Russia should not be allowed to participate in the games under their nations flags due to the current war crimes their countries are committing, but there are plenty of israeli and russian individuals who are opposed to the wars, and should not be collectively punished.

Being born in Russia or Israel should not be grounds for hatred, choosing to support their regimes current actions should.

  • Great, give me an alternative then.

Afaik, except for steam only Itch even has a native Linux client for starters? EGS is a pos software that doesn’t even have an “appear as offline” mode and bleeds money while still taking a 12% cut. And Epic is not a small indie company trying to break into the market.

Steam workshop, their VR integration, their work with Proton for Linux, Steam marketplace, the ease of generating keys for resellers without the 30% cut, great mobile app/interface, actually good storefront browsing, the list just goes on with things Steam does better than any competitor, and that’s just a few examples of where the 30% cut is going (ofc they still make absolute bank on top of this).

But regulating this to something insane like 5% would definitely make us lose out on several of these features, not to speak about future features.

  • Dude, unless you’ve ever tried publishing your own game you should stop parroting stuff you hear online. I’ve released a (borderline shovelware) game I made for educational purposes, and steam is god damned amazing and has such good support for a novice like myself. On the complete opposite of what you’re claiming, the gamers and indie companies stand to gain the most from a service like steam.

It’s not surprising that it’s more or less only people from huge companies like blizzard and Ubisoft who complain and try to gaslight Valve. If I were to release a game again I’d rather publish it on steam if they took 60% of the cut than anywhere else. (Unless you want to pay me a godly amount of money for exclusivity Epic Games, then hmu lol)

  • I’m sorry, but your parallel shows how you’ve got this wrong.

It’s ok to demonstrate against Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and even countries like Russia, China, or USA.

It is NOT ok to demonstrate against Muslims, Jews, bhuddists, or Russians, Chinese, or Americans.

The KKK marching in white robes are classed as hate speech, because they hate a group of people.

Burning the Qur’an is not hate speech because it shows a hatred for Islam, not Muslims.

If we start to ban stuff like this we’re heading towards a slippery slope we don’t want to go down.

HOWEVER, I believe you could see it more as hate speech when it’s obviously directed at, for example, Turkish people when you burn it outside their embassy. And that’s what this discussion should be about, because it’s a whole different thing burning the Qur’an at “plattan” in central Stockholm compared to outside a countries’ embassy. I haven’t paid much attention to Rasmussen either, but if his intent is “Muslims are bad” instead of “limit amount of refugees”, I believe that can be classified as hate speech as well.
