    No-fail kitchen garbage bag replacement.

    1. Buy high quality (not Walmart) plastic kitchen bin. Note bag size printed on giant, impossible to remove sticker.

    2. Buy proper bag size from name brand. You can spend a bit of money up front, or spend your valuable time later cleaning up garbage juice. Your call.

    3. Remove bag from roll.

    4. Open bag and scare the crap out of the dog by inflating the bag with swift, loud, jarring noises.

    5. Place bag in bin. DO NOT ATTACH YET.

    6. Starting at one corner, seal the bag around the edge while simultaneously reaching into the clean bag and forcing air out from between the bin and bag.

    7. Work your way around until entire inside of bin looks like a reverse condom.

    8. Good to go.

simultaneously reaching into the clean bag and forcing air out from between the bin and bag

drill a couple small holes in the bottom of the bin – provides air escape when filling bag and full bag easily lifts out without lifting whole bin

I recently had to replace my kitchen bin and the new one came with the holes pre-drilled

        The future is here

You don’t even need to drill it in the bottom. Our can has a hole at the top just below the rim which works the same. The air can find its way out but it can’t do the 180 degree turn around the rim especially if the bag makes a good seal around the rim.

Just wanted to add, if you finish step 6 with a bit of excess bag collected on the outside of the bin fold it back flat against the outside of the bin and roll the top of the bag down over it a few times. Do it tightly and it holds fairly well without having to pull the drawstring until you take the bag out.

Any European here who can elaborate for me how to perform steps 0 and 1? I don’t know where to search for bins with bag sizes assigned to them or for bags of specific sizes.

Pretty much everywhere I can buy a bin in the UK will tell me its capacity in litres as part of the product description (or on the label if you’re in a physical shop)

Most bin liners you can get from the supermarket have the corresponding capacity written on their labels

Most bins end up falling into a few common sizes, so you usually don’t have to try hard to find a match unless you get a weird bin

Sure, but I don’t think capacity is enough. You need to match dimensions of the opening and the height/width of the container as well. In my experience it’s impossible to match the bin dimensions to the bag dimensions.

Well if you want exact fitting bags to bins, I think companies like Brabantia do exactly that, but that comes at a bit of a premium in both the bin and then buying their bags

alternatively, get one without a draw string, and just cut or tear one section about an inch. Then, use the ‘bunny ears’ to tie off with whatever knot you want. Tuck the ends under.

if you’re able to just stretch the back, it’s like to over-stretch and fail if it gets full. it’s best to use a slightly loose bag and tie it off.

Step 6 is way easier if you do it in space. Can’t afford space? Go to the top of the tallest mountain (sorry Texas) its probably good enough.
