Honestly this just sounds to me like more of the same old “I just don’t understand today’s kids, they’re too coddled! No discipline! Why, back in my day…” shit people have been saying for millennia. Folks just seem to hit that yelling-at-kids phase of their lives sooner now because technology and society is changing even faster than it used to. This is all just standard vibes-based whinging about today’s youth.

Yeah you’re probably stuck on Windows then if you need that specific software and those specific plugins. But WINE keeps getting better too so who knows, maybe FL Studio will work “good enough” for you in another couple of years.

Yeah there’s probably nothing of value to most people being “lost” here. Is this a screenshot from Windows 10 or 11? Because 11 won’t even install without TPM 2.0 support unless you specifically bypass it.

If you want to continue using proprietary Windows-only software (though Blender is and always has been FOSS and Linux native), you just have to put up with Windows. I switched because dealing with Microsoft’s bullshit became more annoying than learning an entirely new OS and altering my workflows a bit. Sounds like you’re not at that point yet though.

I think you might be misunderstanding what this is. This isn’t Canonical holding back freely-available updates to charge you money. This is Canonical doing additional work backporting fixes themselves. On any other distro with old ass packages, you’d be in the same spot just without the option of the ESM updates at all. Also Pro is free for like 5 or 10 machines for non-enterprise users so tell your boss to stop being a cheap ass if they care about security.

Yeah this kind of seems like complaining that RHEL costs money. If you want the absolute latest packages there’s always rolling release. It’s Linux, so if you don’t trust Canonical you can always just assemble your very own system out of thousands of packages that are constantly updating and breaking each other.
