I think it’s more about cost-benefit analysis than any commentary about your integrity.
Benefit to them if they make an exception for you: Probably very small if any.
Potential harm to them if they make an exception for you: You tell everyone and they get harassed constantly.
Benefit to them if they don’t make an exception for you: They don’t have to make an exception, which is probably less work for them.
Potential harm to them if they don’t make an exception for you: You get upset and don’t engage with them anymore, and they don’t have to put up with you asking for exceptions, I guess?
The line is really just a nice way of saying, “Your business is not worth the potential headache that putting up with your BS would cause.”
