Even if this event is a bit old, I think I see the point in reposting it. A right-wing liar will repeat a lie often enough, and that repetition will embed that idea in people’s heads.

This is truth, and it is so incredibly relevant to our situation right now. Maybe it is a few months old, but we need to internalize on a visceral level that j6 participants are criminals who were brought before the law and rightfully punished for offenses against all of us. This needs to be publicised, and if it means we see this exact article (and hopefully similar ones for others involved) over and over again, then that’s the way it has to be.

Trump could have pardoned him. The coup attempt happened on the 6th, Biden didn’t take office until noon on the 20th officially. Trump pardoned plenty of people on his way out. He absolutely could have pardoned Tarrio, there’s precedent for pardoning people for crimes that haven’t been discovered yet in the wake of Nixon leaving office, and for crimes that are known but they haven’t been formally charged with yet in pardoning all the Vietnam draft dodgers. It was as simple as a single sentence, “all participants in the 01/06 protest to protect the integrity of our elections are hereby pardoned of any and all crimes they may be accused of as a result of their participation.” He just didn’t do it. He abandoned his faithful to years in prison, not just cynical authoritarians like the proud boys but true believers who honestly thought they were saving America. He told them all they can get fucked and die in prison.

This is what authoritarians don’t realize about authoritarianism. In a dictatorship there is one and only one person who matters, and everyone else is either that person’s enemy, useful to that person, or nonexistent. They were useful to Trump. Now that they’re no longer useful, they’re nonexistent and he has discarded them.

Will he still be a proud boy senior citizen when he is released back to a world that has forgotten all about him?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was sentenced Tuesday to 22 years in prison for orchestrating a failed plot to keep Donald Trump in power after the Republican lost the 2020 election, capping the case with the stiffest punishment that has been handed down yet for the U.S. Capitol attack.

Tarrio, 39, pleaded for leniency before the judge imposed the prison term topping the 18-year sentences given to Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and one-time Proud Boys leader Ethan Nordean for seditious conspiracy and other convictions stemming from the Jan. 6, 2021, riot.

Tarrio and three lieutenants were convicted in May of seditious conspiracy and other crimes after a months-long trial that served as a vivid reminder of the violent chaos fueled by Trump’s lies about the election that helped inspire right-wing extremists like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers.

Prosecutors had sought 33 years behind bars for Tarrio, describing him as the ringleader of a plot to use violence to shatter the cornerstone of American democracy and overturn the election victory by Joe Biden, a Democrat, over Trump, the Republican incumbent.

Tarrio wasn’t in Washington, D.C, when Proud Boys members joined thousands of Trump supporters, who smashed windows, beat police officers and poured into the House and Senate chambers as lawmakers met to certify Biden’s victory.

The backbone of the government’s case was hundreds of messages exchanged by Proud Boys in the days leading up to Jan. 6 that prosecutors say showed how the extremists saw themselves as revolutionaries and celebrated the Capitol attack, which sent lawmakers running into hiding.

The original article contains 1,057 words, the summary contains 265 words. Saved 75%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

that was dipshit #2, not dipshit #1, pictured here. I believe dipshit #1 replaced dipshit #2 after dipshit #2 stepped down.
