In Kim Stanley Robinson’s Ministry for the Future, having a government backed social media platform helped to turn around humanity’s prospects. Since we are obviously in the dark timeline, we get government twitter.

Good idea, lock official communications behid a completely extraneous log-in. Seems reason based and not self serving for any individual parties.

Are you fucking kidding me? Governments should be moving toward systems that make information easily accessible to every person in the country.

I mean, I’m not surprised, because America is The Bad Place. But they continue to find new and creative ways to disappoint and infuriate me

I think of it like this: take whatever you can think is the worst thing to happen, and then multiply that by two, and you’ll arrive just a bit short of where things land.

Twitter does everything it can to block bot access like that, right? Unless you’re basically hacking it like the closed-source Nitter forks.

Ah yes, propping up the social media site you overpaid for by and subsequently cratered its value by forcing government support for it.

How very capitalist of you. 🙄

Email was the original federated internet system. It makes sense that this government would move to abandon it.
