As a European, my feeling from the outside is that the United States is sliding more and more towards a repressive dictatorship. All the justification of violence, the indifference towards the physical damage of the rival, the accusations crossed, not on one side, generalized. It is possible that in these elections you will avoid catastrophe, but the social climate, the opinions, are not going to disappear. Democracy in the USA is dying without anyone caring

My friend, there are SO many of us who care and share your feelings. Right now it feels like the rug is getting pulled out from under us at every turn.

I know this may sound like victim blaming, but the only issue, the number one issue, that y’all should be demanding is voter reform. There’s no hope for you (and by extension, us in the imperial sphere) otherwise. Especially because the powers that be (the rich and corpos) will fight you tooth and nail to keep gerrymandering and first past the post in place.

The voting system in America, I’d say, is the single largest cause for the political system’s dysfunction.

        (My opinion)

There isn’t much that your average American citizen can actually do. In fact, there is a greater than zero chance that was the driving force behind the shooter’s actions. We’re mostly just a long for the ride.

How about thousands of people stop voting literal idiots into office like MTG or Boebert? Kentucky are you there? McConnell never helped your avg Kentucky person out - just his buddies at the corporate conglomerates.

I dunno, seems like there’s a very simple and effective solution here, but there’s too many stupid hate filled racists here for this to work.

        We get what we deserve…

The problem is that the Republican party and their billionaire backers that benefit from an illusory democratic system have spent at least decades rigging it to be really fucking difficult for liberals to actually win an election in some areas. Propaganda is not the least of their tools.
