    You know, being 1/2 Korean and 1/2 typical white American I can say y’all shouldn’t be sleeping on potato salad. You can use other and additional ingredients than mayo. My Korean family fucking loves my white family’s potato salad.

        As a Midwesterner, potato salad is made with a mixture of real mayonnaise and yellow mustard. Finely diced onion and celery with a dash of old and flavorless paprika for color to round it all out. Salt and pepper to taste. You wouldn’t want it to be too spicy you know.

        Some heretics will add diced dill pickle on occaision - my one Grandmother would sometimes do this after drinking too much. This is generally considered a social faux pas, though us Mid-westerners are too polite and kind to actually say something about it. But we will look askance at you. And your children will never play with our kids ever again.

    I personally love potato salad but I think the biggest thing that hurts its reputation is when it’s bad IT’S BAD!

          The weird thing is that it’s super commonplace over here, so lots of people do enjoy it. There are a lot of different kinds of potato salad and I’m betting the mega-Karen in the OP is referring to the kind that is pretty much just potatoes in mayo (which, for the record, is disgusting).

          Maybe I’m lucky because I live near Pennsylvania Dutch country, but there’s an abundance of good potato salad here.

          not at all, it’s a summertime staple in many places. Unfortunately it’s also fucking gross, right up there with coleslaw - you took something good, like a tater or some lettuce AND FUCKED IT ALL UP and left it wet and nasty.

            I most certainly did NOT! Danish potato salad is fucking delicious! Nothing like the miracle whip and corn syrup monstrosity that’s being referred to here!

          I think it’s because of Americanized potato salad. The kind with miracle whip and tons of corn syrup. I’ve had mayo based salads like this and it makes me want to puke (as an American lol)

          I think this plays with the stereotype that weird eccentric middle aged people like weird/gross food. Sort of like jello salad coincidentally (search it up, it is foul).

      I’ll take it one step further and say potato salad CAN be downright delicious when made well… I have also had potato salad so bad that it caused me to have an existential crisis about how I ended up where I was, eating what I was, and I had to pause to reconsider my life’s choices.
