Not that anyone cares, but I give up on lemmy
Everything I post, even if factually correct, is downvoted within seconds without explanation
Every thread is a circlejerk of the same 3 topics, I learn nothing on lemmy
I’ve been sending people here everywhere else I go on the internet but I regret it now, every time I log in here it just makes me feel like shit
I really believed lemmy could grow to be an alternative to reddit but it’s 100% not happening and this place is going to die
Who cares about votes mate?, just post whatever you want and fuck everone else opinion.
You’re not wrong. It’s just reddit 2 now here. I barely post anymore with all the tankies, trolls, and idiots.
That depends on which communities you’re subscribed to.
I browse All, top 6 hours, and there is hardly anything of value
Absolutely non of them. They just make their way everywhere.
I’ll take tankies over fascists any day …
I want a community of both and I want to see them debate
You learn nothing by surrounding yourself with people you agree with
It’s not even reddit 2 because there is no content. Lemmy is an absolute waste of time
Lemmy is an absolute waste of time
You say that like it’s a bad thing
It’s basically self inflicted torture at this point and I don’t know why I do it to myself
Probably healthier to go back to daily drinking
It’s just full of Biden supporters with no arguments
All threads feel AI generated but they are real people, it’s absurd
Reddit is still much better in absolutely everything
I don’t know how that’s possibly true but I think it is
I think this just means that the honeymoon is over.
In all seriousness, this is a common feature of any social media or human experience (hobby, relationship, etc) in general. When something is new and we are in the exciting discovery period, it seems great. After a while, the warts start to show. Some things begin to seem repetitive.
Lemmy does not have as much content as larger and older social media. It has limitations. the way people vote content is different from other sites because the structure and culture of the platform is different.
This is not to deny anyone’s experience. If you are no longer enjoying it or getting something out of it, take a break. That’s good advice for any social media.
I care. Sorry to see you go. The fediverse can still grow, I suggest you at least stay to lurk and see. It’s just not happening at the pace we were all hoping for at the time. Is reddit really that much better? You’re not an asshole for being honest
It’s not going to grow, it’s dying, and now I’m actively going to steer people away from this place
Where are you going / steering towards?
Dunno, outside in the woods i guess
80% of the Internet is troll farm owned.
Not sure about hostile, but I swear I see more downvotes these days that I used to!
Used to be you got downvoted for being a dick. Now you get downvoted if someone doesn’t like you. Just like Reddit I guess?
I see so many sometimes that I half-expect someone to reply to something I’ve said saying they have the death sentence on 12 systems.
I’ll be careful
Redditors moved here, and brought those habits with them, I guess 🤷♂️
That’s what I was thinking too
Bye now…
I partially agree. I do think that people in Lemmy - including me - are getting more hostile than before, but I also think that this doesn’t tell us the whole picture.
Lemmy is slowly developing its own social norms, apart from the ones in Reddit. This means that a lot of behaviour and discourses that would be accepted in Reddit aren’t accepted here, and vice versa.
I’ll give you two examples of the later. I don’t know if any applies to your case - again, those are examples.
- In Reddit, it’s common to use certain disingenuous forms of argumentation, such as using “I don’t understand” to convey “I disagree, but I expect you to waste your time explaining your view in minimal details while I keep distorting it”. (It’s a type of sealion BTW.) Here people are far more eager to call you out.
- If you derail a non-political discussion in Reddit with intrusive politics, there’s a high chance that you’ll be downvoted or even told to fuck off. Sadly, here people are a bit more eager to give you a free pass, as long as they agree with your political view.
There’s also a third factor that likely plays a role: here you can see the exact amount of downvotes. In Reddit you don’t, you just see the total score. So for example, a post at +25-10 here will show that you got 10 downvotes, but there it’ll show simply “+15”.
My guy if you can’t handle 2 or 3 comments being harassed by trolls or vote brigades (that don’t even do anything) you are gonna have a shit time literally anywhere on the internet
Also instance and user block feature. Use it.
Is it surprising to you that posting this right wing shit got you down voted? Denying the lived experiences of residential school survivors?
How is that right wing? That article is factually correct
Nobody is denying residential school survivors, the fuck are you talking about? This is exactly my problem with this place, and your misinformation is already being upvoted
Well I mean when I read through your posts you’re pretty hostile to lemmy.
So maybe it’s you.
You guys will be better off without me then
Indeed
Teal’c!!! Now I need to rewatch the series.
That was dank episode, too
👍
Well it’s more if you feel you’d be better out without us.
But when I read through your comments, I see stuff like unlike on Reddit downvotes don’t mean anything here. Or stuff like, lemmmy users aren’t going to get it but I feel this way about combustion engines (which is fine who doesn’t love the sound of shit exploding and the hum of an engine lol).
My point wasn’t get the fuck out but you’ll probably encounter less hostility if you don’t prejudge everybody.
Dude if you literally type the word ‘truck’ here you are going to get 20 downvotes, this place is hilarious
I think you have taken fuckcars as being universal across all lemmy communities.
I mean it is, the first thing I did was block fuckcars but it’s in every thread anyway
truck
Let this be the most upvoted comment in lemmy history ⬆️
You have a few recent comments and a few older posts with downvotes, but most of your posts are overwhelmingly upvoted.
The downvotes were earned, and maybe you should give more consideration to why people were disagfeeing with you on those few topics as there were replies that made the reason clear.
This post screams: EVERYONE MUST LIKE ME OR I LEAVE!!
No im upset because there is literally nowhere on the internet worth spending time anymore, and i thought lemmy was the last stronghold
Someone gave you an honest, well thought out comment and you went to “there is no where left on the internet”.
The saying stands. You you smell shit while walking around, there was probably some shit around. If you smell it all day, check your shoe.
Maybe the internet is not for you.
I mean it’s almost universally shitty at this point
Would give my left nut to go back to 1999
Maybe go outside. Get some fresh air and stop putting all of your interests in a social media platform.
You are telling on yourself here, what do you actually want?? An echo chamber? If so, they are EVERYWHERE.
If you desperately need the entire goddamn web to be one giant echo chamber (specific to your preferences, no less), you can kindly fuck off. The internet is not for you.
Nah I actually just give up. I put effort into typing comments here and I realized it’s not worth it.
Okay, that was always allowed. Goodbye!
Why spend time on self reflection and improving one’s understanding when you can just quit instead?
-Mediocrities
Speaking of self-reflection… You’re not wrong but you didn’t need to be so mean about it. Especially in this context.
And that goes for all of you too.
Nah, I was nice at first but they don’t want to acknowledge the reality that most of their stuff is upvoted so this is the perfect context to mock them.
Why is it the perfect context to mock them? It seems like you just care more about getting upvoted than treating another human being with empathy.
Self reflection is hard; I don’t begrudge you for shying away from it. But don’t act all high and mighty in that case.
“If everywhere you go smells like shit, check your shoes.”
Maybe you are gone already so won’t see this.
But I actually agree with your central point that the politics and tech communities on Lemmy are full of strife and hostility that doesn’t need to be there. Actually most of the rest of it seems fine, but if you care about politics or tech, the quantity of dickheads get hard to ignore.
My strategy has been to pretty aggressively cull some communities out of my subscriptions, and then make a little hobby out of attempting to disagree with some of the dickheads good naturedly in places I still subscribe to. Be the change you want to see in the world and etc. I don’t always succeed.
I have to say, skimming over your user, that it looks to me like most of the time when you get downvotes, it’s not because of anything opinion based, but because you’re being hostile and dismissive of the other person’s point of view – sometimes like instantly right out of the gate, like “oh great I’m sure this thread is going to be FULL of people saying wrong opinion X which is obviously wrong”… which is exactly what you’re saying you’re sick of. IDK, man, you could be right or wrong. But being hostile about it and actively trying to pick fights with the other viewpoint even before anyone has shown up to express it seems like it’s not exactly gonna draw people gathering around you throwing roses and warmly embracing you if that’s what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for lots of fighting then sure but it sounds like that is not what you are after.
Like I say I gave up on certain communities because of what you’re saying. I won’t say at all that your assessment is wrong. But also I do think there’s a certain degree to which (again just saying what I’ve seen looking back a little) you’ve created exactly the strife as well on your side.
Was this you?
Don’t even pay attention to downvotes, they don’t really do anything unlike reddit
I guess it depends, personally I find it way better than the alternatives. Sure you have people with different opinions but thats a good thing, just block the trolls and assholes and carry on.
