My disabled friend just needs to make like $20 a day to afford what she needs.

I know there are a ton of like “fill out surveys to ear money” “play games to earn money” “Do this little task” but all the ones I’ve found give like… $1 an hour.

I know fiverr is an option, but I dunno if that is consistent enough when she needs to get moving.

Any websites that would let her sidegig when she feels up to it and isn’t trash pay?

If she’s native or fluent in English, Cambly is a good choice for teaching online. The pay isn’t that good but it’s something, $10.20 an hour of talk time, or $12 for group classes (which are actually easier). Seems like they’ve had a lot of applicants recently but they are still accepting people, it may just take a while.

My referral link: https://www.cambly.com/invite/ADAM3261?st=060524&sc=4 Generic link: https://www.cambly.com/tutor/signup?lang=en

She can reach out to me if she wants some help with getting started teaching online, I’ve been doing it for years.

If she is fluent in English then there are some legit options (as in, will comply with minimum wage laws).

There are tech “consulting”/talent agencies which offer gig work where you help assess AI, i.e. rate and correct LLM responses, correct road signs etc.

There are also some foreign news stations which run English programs, but pay gig workers to rate/correct their pronunciation.

The LLM training gigs exist but they are way unreliable; you’re a contractor with 0 guarantee of work, and when there is work it’s a lump of tasks that get assigned on a first come, first serve basis. You weren’t awake and monitoring your email at 3pm? Well you might have just lost your chance to work that week because it will be taken by other by the time you wake up.

Do it for extra income, but be aware many are being exploited to train those models.

Source: I got hired by one of those 27/h job posts in LinkedIn.

Adding a bit to the porn angle, there are options that don’t require exposing herself. There’s people that get around creating PMV and HMV (porn/hentai music videos) and JOI variations, so that’s basically video editing skills.

If she’s ok with only “showing off” her voice, she could try some amateur VA work. That might require some initial cash setup in the form of a decent mic and some soundproofing, she’d also need to do a number of gigs “for free” as a demonstration to anyone who decides to hire her.

On xitter mostly and maybe instagram or tiktok. The former is much more lax with adult stuff, but the latter two are better for discoverability.

As for the content, it could be for either 2D or 3D animation, furry or not.

There was a subreddit … something like “hits worth turking for” or something like that??

“worth turking for” was part of its name, iirc…

There might be other communities identifying higher-paying items, perhaps a Lemmy devoted to that?

Perplexity may be able to find something of the sort…

Is it $20 before or after tax? Can she afford to put some money in it to start with? Is she good at something unique or special?

If she has the energy, she could pick up streaming or YouTube video… There seems to be some interest at how people with disabilities live and manage everyday hurdles but also their thoughts on life in general!

Many people with disabilities also can make some money selling art or other services that they might be good at.

Just consider that making money may in some countries substrate from the financial support already offers by whatever country you may be in

Please note that every day thousands of people try to start with streaming/YouTube/TikTok etc. and almost all of them fail. It’s not impossible to make money, but it super hard and most people never make anything. I would never recommend anybody do it with the intent or expectation to make any money. Just do it for the fun of it and if you happen to make some money, great!

I think that if you have the personality for it and something unique to talk about, i dont think that its that unlikelly. Especially if the target is $20 a day.

Viewers are very curious and id guess that a steamer with a vissible dissability could attract a fair bit of users. I know its all about exhibiting ones personal side but i’ve seen suggestions here for making porn so it is maybe not that extreme

There is a survivor bias to big YouTubers. All of the ones who make it to 10,000 subscribers are already beating one in a million odds. It’s a total longshot. That’s why you need to go into it not caring about money. Because it’s super unlikely, like winning the lottery unlikely, that you will make any money at all.

Yup. I went to school with somebody who was big into youtubing, he had professional Sony software for editing snd everything. The guy only had at most 20 subscribers and he’d been doing it for a while.

I dont know. Personally i am pretty boring. Made it to 2 x $50 on twitch though before i chose to delete my account. I know that this is nothing t really but still its cool cash for gaming. I did put in an effort but to be fair i wouldn’t watch myself. I dont even watch others steam!

If you’ve got it in you and kind of have a feeling for what people want (best to look at what you prefers and give them that) then I’d say the odds are a lot better than winning the lottery

It is possible, but not likely. And even if you can succeed, it usually takes months or often years to build up to $20/day.

Until you build a youtube channel up to 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time, you are not even eligible to apply to be in the youtube payment program.

All income is required to be reported and taxed.

If you are below a certain threshold annually you will get that tax refunded.

I believe you typically get the money withheld, and if when you file are determined not to have any tax liability, you get a refund between what you paid and what you owe. That’s just like anyone else, but that second number happens to be zero. I swear there’s an option in a W4 that you had/expect to have your tax liability be zero as well, but of course if you turn out to be wrong you’re in for a world of hurt

And if she can’t yet draw, then please get her to invest in:

      • “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, the 4th Definitive Edition”, by Betty Edwards
      • all the tools recommended in that book
      • a charcoals assortment ( I’ve no idea why Betty Edwards doesn’t understand how much easier it makes it to learn?! )
      • “The Simple Secret To Better Painting”
      • “Mastering Composition”

      and then dig-in.

      The 1st book many know-about.

The 2nd, much-fewer do, so the advantage that someone has, when they’ve earned the meanings of both, becomes noticeable…

      The 3rd? That’s University-level better.

Nobody who’s earned the meanings of all-3 is likely to remain at the bottom-of-the-heap in artwork…

The 1st 2 books, however, are required for competing well.

Search job sites for “search quality rater.” Should be a number of postings for fully remote, part-time, ~$15/hr work. Takes a few weeks to go through the qualifying process, but it’s mostly common sense stuff. Just requires the time commitment - projects will probably want 10-20 hours a week.
