A Delta Air Lines flight that departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City was forced to make an emergency return to the airport Friday morning after an emergency slide came apart from the Boeing 767, the airline said. A search for the slide was ongoing.

“After the aircraft had safely landed and proceeded to a gate, it was observed that the emergency slide had separated from the aircraft,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement to NPR Friday afternoon.

I guess I don’t understand how these things are stored, because it’s not like they are saddle bags. Seems weird they couldn’t fall out? Off? Did a whole compartment on the side open and dislodge the contents? How weird.

I mean just going off bullshit and what not, I’d venture to guess the deployment is handled by device be it air tank or what ever assists the slide deployment could have failed…the timing is curious

I guess that makes sense. Maybe it didn’t so much as fall off as it got torn off because it deployed.
