Move comes after court found that efforts to amend lese majeste laws by Move Forward party were unconstitutional

Thailand’s election body has said it will seek the dissolution of a pro-reform party that won the most votes in last year’s election, saying there is evidence the party “undermines the democratic system with the king as the head of state”.

Move Forward came top in last year’s election after promising major reforms, including to amend Thailand’s draconian lese-majesty law, under which criticism of the powerful royal family can lead to up to 15 years in prison. However, the party was blocked from taking power by military-appointed senators, and is now threatened by a number of legal cases.

The Election Commission’s latest statement follows a constitutional court ruling in January, which said that Move Forward’s pledge to reform the lese-majesty law was unlawful and that it must cease all such efforts.

Right-wing garbage is everywhere. Like greed, ignorance and arrogance themselves were a global conspiracy.

You have to read this again and again. The King does not want the reforms the poeple voted for democratically. Why even have democratic votes if in the end a king (in tank tops) will dissolve the democratic voted party.

It’s not the King, the Thai king is a useless playboy. It’s the Thai military who’ve held power for a decade. The Military Junta wants to dissolve their rival and are just trying to use the King as the excuse.

Oh oh… this is the kind of stuff that gets people to start rolling out guillotines. Take away the peaceful option for resistance and only the violent one shall remain.

It honestly scares me how Thailand is slowly becoming an authoritarian government over the years and as some one who has relatives over there, and knowing how much they hate the current king, since he’s hardly in the country cuz he’s too busy paying thousands in five star hotels to have endless orgies with his many gfs to even give a fuck about the consequences and how shit life is there atm (unless your white)

It’s honestly just upsetting, esp as freedom of speech has been so severely restricted with the changes the previous gov (military junta) has made over the years, and killing opponents of the king/government. Just absolutely scary tbh.
