BookWyrm is a fediverse alternative to Goodreads. It’s pretty good but I don’t use the social aspects, just for book tracking.

matrix is not part of the fediverse btw, though there’s probably a bridge
Matrix is often listed as part of the Fediverse. It doesn’t use ActivityPub, but neither are Diaspora, GNU Social, and some other federated protocols.
Since ActivityPub doesn’t have the concept of direct messages (some apps pretend it does but that’s dangerous IMO), I don’t think there’s a good bridge between Matrix and ActivityPub. Kazarma seems to be working on this, but I’m not sure how I feel about it.
