I don’t have any contact with the American elite, but my ex-wife is married to a Burmese guy and lives with him and our daughter in Myanmar, which is a military dictatorship - and the guy is extremely well off and connected. So I was randomly thinking about this today.
The wealthy elite in the US have even more freedom and access to exponential wealth because most democracies have a legal system that makes holding the wealthy accountable for anything they do extremely difficult because they can drag out cases and settle. In a dictatorship the ability to do what one wants is at the whim of the dictator.
