To use Google messages you must sign in to one of your google accounts, even though that was not a requirement until today that I know of or was aware of.
I hate the Googlopoly too, but it doesn’t say you can’t use messages, just that you can’t use the Google features in the app. Why are you even using Google Messages?
probably because it’s the default SMS app on most Android phones nowadays, and people don’t bother installing a third party one, or aren’t aware that it’s a possibility. or they want to use RCS features.
I do have Google Messages on my phone, as the pre-installed SMS app doesn’t support RCS (or maybe just doesnt want to talk to the RCS implementation of my mobile network). I tried a few alternatives, but all didn’t want to enable RCS on the mobile network that I’m on or had some other major problems. Google Messages just worked.
Since today, I cannot access the app without a login. I cannot proceed and access my messages unless I login. It’s not just the Google features as you state, the whole app is now useless.
