I watched Alien 3 last night and it’s a good movie. I think it suffered from two things: -All the production problems before and during the shoot -Being called Alien 3 and being the direct followup to Aliens

It could have worked as its own movie or as an Alien spinoff. I think people were so upset about how it undoes the ending of Aliens that it coloured their opinion on the rest of the movie.

One small nitpick though, and I can probably explain it; the Alien knew Ripley was carrying the Queen and that’s why it wouldn’t attack her. Why wouldn’t the Alien just plaster her to a wall up in the air ducts until the Queen hatched? It was probably wasn’t considered because the Alien was meant to be smaller than normal, having come from an animal. Production problems meant it kept changing size, and whilst the movie has a man sized Alien pulling people into air vents, that could have been part of the rewrites done during the shoot and wasn’t scoped into the larger story.

The studio fucked around with Fincher so much that it affected the outcome of the product. We all know how good Fincher is and, personally I look past the interference and enjoy the movie on its own terms I guess.

I have read the Cadigan/Gibson screenplay also and would love to see that on the big screen.

I dunno if you’re still on Reddit, but, r/LV426 loves to talk about this stuff

I came across r/LV426 looking for the screenplay. I don’t really go on reddit anymore but I might sub anyway.

I think it’s so funny they picked Fincher when they wanted the movie made as quickly as possible. He was less of a known quantity then but he’s up there with Kubrick in terms of how many takes he’s willing to do for a scene.

I loved the very Fincher cam at the end of the Alien’s POV. It’s a great cheap way to get that feeling of terror without needed to have the Alien on screen like a trick Carpenter would have used in an early movie
