It seems animesuge.to, anix.to and aniwave.to closed down with the exact same message, though there may be a few other sites that closed down in a similar way.
This sucks a lot.
awww man 9anime is where I found most of my stuff
It’s something we should do to show our respect to creators
Yeah pretty based
and content producers
If there will be a service for paying the creators directly, will you pay for that?
Probably. Unless they’re only using that as a hook where there are still other forces not directly involved in the creative/hosting process that are taking 90% of the profits.
EDIT: just realized you’re probably talking about stuff like patreon where you actually just pay the creators, in which case, absolutely! I’ve got a number of patreons I’m actively supporting
I’m sorry what manga is that panel from I have to go look it up
Looks like https://anidb.net/character/107605
Jujutsu kaisen
That text is included in every site that was shut down. All I can do is speculate, but I think the site owners were forced to write that. It’s unlikely that every pirate site owner suddenly had a change of heart in regards to piracy.
I don’t really watch anime theese days but 9anime was the goat. I will miss them.
ELI5 how does piracy streaming work?
Bittorrent via javascript in the browser?
Or just leeching?
Most anime piracy sites just put the episodes into a few video hosting websites, and then embed those videos.
So just leeching
No, they don’t rely on the BitTorrent network, it’s just regular video streaming
That sounds like a very strange model comparing to how empowering and decentralized real torrenting is.
There even us btfs which allows to mount filesystems over bittorrent and access on demand.
And I am sure that bittorrent over Javascript on a Website would be possible.
Like Snowflake runs as a browser extension and people connect over WebRTC
It’s for noobs who can’t torrent
I mean it is likely also safer as it is encrypted?
Using a VPN service and installing qBittorrent is pretty easy.
You won’t get caught torrenting. This has nothing to do with encryption. You are at the mercy of the site owner, who has a lot of server bills and can make money by putting viruses on your computer.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned working in IT, it’s to not underestimate people’s inability to grasp even to most simple of technical tasks.
Pirate websites like this usually rely on the shadier ad networks baked into these kinds of video streaming sites to make their money.
There’s no financial incentive to use BitTorrent based streaming, and if they did I feel the torrents would die rapidly just due to the amount of leechers with barely any seeders to offset the ratio disparity (Unless some kind of webseed was available ?)
Fuck…
I was planning to finish a series on AnimeSuge and AnimeSuge is now gone. I’m not going to fucking subscribe to Crunchyroll because, they don’t have anime classics like Tenchi Universe or Tenchi in Tokyo. AnimeSuge did. They had everything Tenchi in one place whereas you have to subscribe to both Funimation and Cruncyroll to even get a third of the series available.
And watching the original 1997 Berserk series straight through was on AnimeSuge. None of the legal options fucking have it and everyone is selling the series on EBay and Amazon for triple the price.
This is fucking bullshit!
Check the community Megathread. It has pretty good websites, even desktop programs.
Have you considered torrenting the old fashioned way?
I don’t torrent. I’ve got no patience for it and the climate to which to torrent in, isn’t nearly as rich as it once was in the 2000s. So it’s not worth my time.
If you want to evade torrents;
The fansub group hi10anime has direct download links (ouo shortlink guarded, which is a non issue for me with ad blocker and browser addon auto-click). Only need a website account to see the post with links.
I know they have a Berserk 1997 encode/release. And other classic as well as recent anime.
