I used to be into dark, offensive jokes until like Dave Chapelle I realized that many of the people weren’t laughing at the ridiculous nature of the jokes but because they supported the offense against group X or Y. I felt gross to be part of that, so I mostly left offensive humor behind online. Now I stick to close-knit groups where everyone has a social awareness and understanding of what is over the line and we’ll call one another out when necessary.
That said, it is something I enjoy, it’s just very hard to do well. I leave it up to Bill Burr and other comedians of that sort who can handle the nuance.
I could just be old too, happens to the best of us.
Yea, I didn’t realize it myself, someone pointed it out to me. That doesn’t mean anything is wrong with dark humor, I also like it, it’s just trickier than I realized. That’s what friends are for, we share perspectives.
Thinking back on it, the first time someone shared this to me I was pretty dismissive of the idea. It took me a while to process it and come around. Unfortunately I never got to tell the person they changed my perspective because they were gone before I had the realization.
Dark humor, offensive jokes.

I haven’t thought of that point of view.
