I really do not like making generalizations based on nationality, ethnicity, etc. But Japanese electronics companies are absolutely hobbled by how top down and fearful they are of anything they don’t have 100% control and grasp of. Nintendo won’t even release the soundtracks to their games unless it’s on CD. No vinyl, no Spotify, nothing.
Sony and Microsoft would have be 90% cross-platform for at least a decade before Nintendo catches up. I mean look at the state of their online play and the Nintendo store. It’s atrocious. If PlayStation or Xbox operated in the same way, they’d be dead in the water. Nintendo has just cultivated a cult over decades that tolerates so much more bullshit. Hell I own a switch and I don’t even know why! I have like seven games for it. Don’t even get me started on how they price their first party titles. It’s like they have an allergy to sales. Whereas I picked up TLOU and H:ZD for $10-$15 each (with DLC!) 3-4 years after release.
Once they’ve made up their mind, they are incredibly obstinate.
Go multi platform and a large chunk of the people currently pirating Switch games for emulation will just buy your games instead.
