COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s Republican Gov. Mike DeWine said Thursday that he is calling a rare special session of the General Assembly next week to pass legislation ensuring that President Joe Biden is on the state’s 2024 ballot.

The special session was called for Tuesday.

“Ohio is running out of time to get Joe Biden, the sitting President of the United States, on the ballot this fall. Failing to do so is simply unacceptable. This is ridiculous. This is (an) absurd situation,” DeWine said.

I forget where I read it but I think they’re pushing a republican rider with it to “outlaw foreign election money” or something. Which is funny since the biggest election interference I’ve seen was a “newspaper” I got last year, filled with disinfo and sent from Illinois. Probably from the Illinois republican billionaire that spent a boat load of money fighting weed/abortion in a state he doesn’t have any business being in.

The bill he’s going to push is filled with bullshit and will cripple the public’s ability to use ballot initiatives, like they recently did to secure abortion rights for the state and are currently trying to use for correcting Republican gerrymandering.

Biden will get on the ballot and it will cost the Ohio voters their most significant power to affect change.

Not worth it. Biden isn’t going to win Ohio anyway. No dem will win Ohio for thirty years. That state only rivals Florida in what a disaster it’s become in the last ten years.

Probably could have just stopped there, unfortunately. If he doesn’t do a 180 on being a cheerleader for genocide in the next couple months, he’s doomed in Michigan and possibly other swing states that he can’t win without such as Minnesota.

Disclaimer in case of whataboutism: YES, I know that Trump would be just as bad or even worse (if that’s even possible now) on Gaza and much worse in just about every other aspect.

I don’t WANT Biden to lose, but the way he’s alienating prospective voters that were going to vote for him, it seems horribly likely that he’s going to lose the second most winnable presidential election of my 41-year lifetime (after the one he DID win where how awful Trump was as president was being proven in real time) because of his own stubbornness and/or corrupt relationship with AIPAC and other lobbying arms of the genocidal apartheid regime.

I mean, I don’t like to read it but I think you’re right. The Democrats need to align with progressives to win. Biden is set to lose this election, as much as I hate Trump.

Sounds like it’s time for the feds to step in and charge all representatives of the state of Ohio for treason. Expedited trials.

Those of you worried it sets precedent would be right to realize president won’t matter if he loses.

    It’s over.

Sounds like you don't remember what treason is, when you look it up, remember you have already been manipulated. Treason is ultimately an act against your country. It is fact that they would be performing an act against their country to not put him on the ballot and put someone who is an enemy of the state. Treason. Some could say you defense of such is treason

Yikes. I would’ve deleted that too. This is exactly why the US Constitution explicitly defines treason and makes such a high bar for conviction. Treason has a history of being used as a cudgel to destroy any political opposition or dissent.

Like I said, you’re as ridiculous as any MAGA loon. You may as well be shouting “Hang Mike Pence” or talking about super secret military tribunals convening to try your political enemies.

So. While this law is relatively new (more than a decade old iirc,) it has required waivers in previous elections already, from both parties. Maybe next time the parties should actually take deadlines like this into consideration when planning their conventions? The deadline is August 7th, so it’s not some implausibly early date, as the Democratic convention is only scheduled like two weeks later. And the deadline hasn’t been a surprise.

I agree they should get a waiver but damn, seems a bit incompetent.

You’ve got it backwards. While there’s several reasons why the conventions shouldn’t be held earlier (such as the possibility of tight primaries and the fact that campaigns need a lot of time to prepare), there’s absolutely no reason why a completely arbitrary deadline can’t be changed.
