If you’re ever in Nashville I think it’ll be worth the time in line! The original store tastes a lot better than the expansion stores.

I’m a spice enthusiast. The level of pain and suffering I received there just before starting my 8 hour drive home from Nashville that day was brutal. 8/10 no regerts

I have eaten Hattie’s and Prince’s. I liked them both, but Prince’s seemed better. This was last year, so I cannot recall all the specifics. I did also eat my spouse’s. Mine I ordered “medium” and hers had no spice.
Mine was far too hot. I ate some of it, but I could not eat all of it. I like some spice for sure, but medium was too much to enjoy. I ate hers and it was very good. It just didn’t have any spice. That was the Prince’s at the Food Hall.
For Hattie’s I think it was the West location. I ordered “mild” just in case. Not bad or anything, but I was not wowed by it. I’ll try the Broadway store next time. Could’ve been a number of reasons, so another attempt will be made.
I did buy some Nashville Hot Chicken spice mix from a spice shop and brought it home. I have not used it yet as I am the only one in my house who likes ( < medium) hot chicken.
Lived there for years and Prince’s was the best. Also liked Hot Stuff in Antioch because they had hot fried catfish.

I think I built up Nashville style hot chicken from Nashville too much in my head. I was disappointed with Hattie B’s not because it was bad, but because it wasn’t significantly better than what I get in Texas. That said, not a bad deal since it’s still damn good and means I can get something very comparable close to home.
Don’t go to Hattie B’s for the OG. Hattie B’s is honestly a sort of white washed version of the Nashville originals that were around for 40+ years. Would recommend Bolton’s next time. Prince’s is pretty good, but not the same after the original storefront burned down right around COVID
Yeah, the premise of Nashville hot chicken is simple enough that you’re not going to get some secret technique that requires the cook to get up at 3am to start the slow smoker or anything, so all you need for the authentic experience is a cook that knows what to do instead of some corporate slave that goes “it’s just spicy chicken, right?”
The first time I ever went to Hattie B’s I was absolutely plastered. I demanded the hottest chicken they had. Best mistake ever. I was pooping lava all night 10/10
