Ultimately, I don’t think Overwatch 2 will disappear from the public eye even if MR comes to utterly dominate the hero shooter market, for one singular, succinct reason: a LOT of people are INCREDIBLY interested in Overwatch Porn, and that’s not going to stop anytime soon.

That’s absolutely correct. You can also choose to play games that don’t suck more dick than the pornos based on them.

I choose to do both by not playing Overwatch.

What’s to tell me? That bad games that fall out of prominence tend to be remembered for reasons outside their gameplay or world building? That everyone already knows OW2 will be remembered more for its R34 than its actual gameplay? Or that Blizzard dropped the ball so hilariously terribly that people would literally rather play any other game despite the millions of dollars spent on lore, animations, publicity, and skins design?

Marvel Rivals has nude mods lol, it apparently tops ow porn. That was my point.

I wonder how bad ow is because I’ve never seen so many people heartbroken by something , a game at that too. I gave it a try last month. Felt it was a good game but I uninstalled cause I wanted to focus on single player games.

I only played the OW beta, years ago, but even then I could see a bit of what people are upset about now. Characters are designed around one concept for their whole kit, and anytime people find a way to do MORE with them, Blizzard usually patches them to do LESS. Map design is… questionable at best, and confusing for people who are fresh to the game. The balance of things, even early on, was obviously going to be focused around a competitive ruleset, and that puts a severe damper on things from a casual fun standpoint.

Moving on to more recent events that I don’t have personal experience with, Blizzard has just repeatedly shit the bed. OW2 was promised with massive PVE expansions and massive balance changes/gameplay tweaks to make the game feel fresh and fun again. Instead, they released several generic coomerbait heroes that didn’t do anything unique, cut the PVE ENTIRELY, which players were super hyped for, “”“rebalanced”“” the game (they went from 6v6 to 5v5), and unloaded a ton of paid cosmetics and battlepass mechanics that nobody asked for or wanted. Then as the dust settled, they started releasing more heroes that broke the game further; Mauga was SO UNBALANCED on release that the only way to beat him… was another Mauga, leading to a near 100% pick rate in matches; I remember hearing Rammatra(I think that’s the name of the robo-centaur?) Was also super busted on release; finally, the seasonal balance changes were usually poorly received.

So it’s not impossible to see why so many people who’ve spent so much time and money on OW and OW2 are so heartbroken about it, yet so eager to jump ship.

I haven’t played myself in about a month since it’s been the holiday period, but it looks to be in a bit of a lurch. Many streamers jumped ship to Marvel Rivals (at least for the moment). Marvel Rivals is also an inherently more accessible game since it’s not a MOBA. I think the initial hype has died down and closed beta testing will now resume in a more normal way. I wouldn’t expect another big player surge until open beta begins - possibly even full release.

I’ve had more fun in the last 2 weeks I’ve been playing Rivals than the entirety I’ve played Overwatch 2. The game just wants to seem more focused on being fun rather than competitive.

100%. I’ve played OW since the OW1 launch date. Stopped playing the day Rivals was released.

I agree with the “focused on fun” comment. feels more like ow1 where it was balanced by everything being broken.

Are you a Marvel fan in general? As someone who couldn’t care less about Marvel heroes, I played Rivals for a bit, and while it was entertaining, I would rather just go play Overwatch.

I don’t give a shit about Marvel anything and I had a blast playing the new game with my partner and my friend. I refused to play Overwatch 2, but I loved Overwatch 1. Also I like that I can be a furry lawl

I’m with you on this. Marvel Rivals feels off/ cheap in a way I don’t really know how to articulate.

Some of the animations are definitely janky (looking at you, Punisher jumping off your lil zip line), the visual clarity is worse than OW (although maybe that’s just a symptom of how much I’ve played OW vs. MR), and it just has a bit less polish than OW.

That being said, there’s something about MR that feels nostalgic, like early OW1, and I’ve been having a blast with it. Shorter match and queue times are certainly a big factor too.

personally, as someone who was absolutely in love with ow1, ow2 just isn’t the same to me. I’ve never been able to see it as anything other than the regrettable cash grab that it was. I could never really enjoy it. rivals tho? rivals is fun. and I don’t have that nagging voice in the back of my head telling me I’m just playing with the taxidermied corpse of a game I once loved.

also rivals is just kind of solid? the characters might be a little bland because corporatism and fitting an already designed mold but the game play is rather fun.

and im v much not a marvel fan, supeheros in general are just kind of meh. tbh the only superhero media I’ve vibed with at all is doom patrol. moon knight was p good but it doubles down on the “killer alter” stereotype and I’m so not here for that, nor do I like his gameplay in rivals.

I agree that OW1 was better. They ran a public 6v6 test for the past couple weeks, and there’s another one confirmed coming sometime, so the OW you loved may return at some point.
