The auto company [Tesla] had 5.6 fatal accidents per billion miles traveled by its vehicles, narrowly edging out Kia, with 5.5 per billion miles, as the brand with the overall highest rate of deadly accidents.
I had to read it twice, because it didn’t seem like they knew why this was the case, but nope, my gut reaction that many Teslas are probably just driven by shitty people was spot on:
their elevated accident rates likely “reflect a combination of driver behavior and driving conditions.”
With that kind of acceleration power, you are putting a sports car in the hands of someone who should not be driving a sports car. Additionally, with all the automated driving features, more people are likely to just ignore the road.
Deadly combination.
