“We believe there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly, when possible. Trump is now the official Republican nominee for US President.”

AKA: it’s more profitable for us to let him stream his hatred on our platform again.

Eh, it makes sense. Hopefully the more people hear his words directly, the less they should want to vote for him.

When has that ever worked out for anyone? Trump will fuck over anyone and everyone, he doesn’t care about you unless you have something he needs from you.

Trump has worked out wonderfully for a lot of people from the 1%. Both as a result of tax cuts as well as regulatory favors for folks that pay up and / or make nice. Elon for example is in for plenty of return on investment.

Totally agree. He is only looking out for himself, and if you’re someone like him, you might get some benefit as well. He’s not going out of his way to help anyone who can’t help him in someway. And even if you can help in some way, the nanosecond he doesn’t need you anymore, he’ll abandon you.

Anyone know how subs and bit donations work on the campaign finance side? This feels like some weird gray area where supporters can give money to a politician. I guess it’s not that different than selling assassination sneakers. But something smells weird to me

Twitch disabled the account following the Jan. 6 riot on the US Capitol in 2021 due to “the current extraordinary circumstances and the President’s incendiary rhetoric” before issuing an indefinite suspension two weeks later, according to a Twitch spokesperson.

Guess we’ll all just collectively forget about this now that’s he’s the Republican nominee again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now that he’s a position to do it again, lets all rush to restore his accounts! Brilliant!

It was an insurrection. He wants and was granted immunity for executing political opponents as an “official act.” Three years time out?

So three years is the proper amount for an unrepentant failed coup, insurrection and inciting murder? You are just an absolute ding dong and you have boot polish all around your mouth.

Comments like these make me seriously want to leave Lemmy. Some people here are just foaming at the mouth to attack anyone who doesn’t conform exactly to their rhetoric, as opposed to just having a normal discussion.

Insulting that previous poster and calling him a bootlicker diminishes and undermines your actual point. I hate Trump and his actions as much as anyone here, but we gotta be better than this and not polarize everything on our side.

“I hate Trump and his actions as much as anyone here, but…”

Of course, this is the traditional phrasing used by us fellow legitimate, absolutely genuine, haters of fascism and their associated ideals - We just can’t stop qualifying it, we can’t help ourselves…

“Women should have equal rights, but…”

*“Love who you love, marry who you want, but…”

            “I’m definitely not racist, but…”

“I support a person’s right to choose what they do with their pregnancy, but…”

“The Nazis were out of line, but…”

“UH, SEE… Now look what YOU made me do!!!”

Will anyone else in this thread commit to stepping up and adding absolutely nothing to this conversation, in this person’s place, if they do leave Lemmy? Who’s going to do their part?

That is an absolute misrepresentation of what I said. My only point is that we should be better than them, not legitimize them.

But I get it, it’s easier to shit on slightly dissenting Lemmy users rather than take meaningful action.

Fun Fact: That’s 4 times longer than the prison term Hitler got for his first coup attempt.
